Snow has melted but the ground is still frozen. My gardening friends (here in zone 4 B- 5) will be starting peas and lettuce as soon as they can get a shovel into the soil. And some are putting seeds in little flats inside.
Where are you writing from? I have some forsythia that I forced..it is in bloom inside in a deep clear blue vase and very heartening. Herons, canada geese, bluebirds, red-winged black birds are back, altho no singing yet. Tips of wild yellow and blue flag and marsh marigolds peeping thru the soil.
I just planted spinach, and my chard is doing well too—but I live in California where we can plant year round.
I started indoors Jan 19 and planted outdoors 2 weeks ago.
@All; gooch has the good fortune to live in LA., unlike some of us.
I’m in California and my mom just planted ours a few days ago.
In Texas, when the mesquite tree begins to bud. Now.
I live in a condo, so I’m not able to plant veggies, but I plant flowers in May.
Ground still frozen, garden spot covered in snow, with any luck May 15th.
Frost on the roof in the shadier areas when I got up. Will winter never end? (central, hilly eastern NYS – aka the snow belt.)
