Listening to this, thought about how there are wars raging all over the world, especially in the Middle East, now more than ever – yet so many Peace and Protest songs were written in the 60’s and 70’s…
Do they still write ‘em? Got music?

So much seems to be dead in the world today. I miss (some) things about the 60s; especially my beloved folk music and the passionate beliefs.
I’ve read a number of times that historians believe the ‘60s Black and student protests were the final significant wave of protest in this country.
Maybe we need to reinstitute a draft to generate some protest songs again?
I am convinced that All These Things That I’ve Done by The Killers is a war protest song. Mind you I have no research to back up this belief, just a feeling. I mean doesn’t a video with cowboys in a trailer park just scream war protest?
I can think of quite a few. Flobots is pretty much a band comprised of protest like songs.
i really like this one by Nas and Damian Marley not about america though…
Billy Bragg has done some too.
Yep. Check out Emmas Revolution.
I’m a big fan of Michael Franti and Spearhead. “Yell Fire,” “Everyone Deserves Music,” “Time to Go Home” and “Bomb the World” are all good songs.
I cannot really answer your question as to contemporary protest singers….though I know most socially aware artists have done some protest songs on their CD’s.
I had to plug one of my all-time and long gone favorites, though….they don’t make them like this anymore…she was one of the best!
