How to stop myself from being physically sick before exams?

Whenever I’m put under stress job interview/exam/etc I become sick get dizzy spells, etc and normally this results in me failing even simple exams. How can I stop this?

It becomes extremely hard getting jobs as being light headed I’m not my self fully, I look drained of energy, etc.

You might want to consider an anti-anxiety medicine like Xanax for just those times.

Try meditation.It might help you relax a bit :)

Are you eating before these things? What about getting enough sleep? If you aren’t eating enough food because of the stress of the upcoming event, it could cause you to get dizzy when your blood sugar drops. Not getting enough sleep can have an affect as well. Do you do anything to help yourself relax the before those things?

Well I bring this up because today again I failed my driving theory test, I didn’t feel like eating all day but I forced myself food. I got a good night sleep last night.

I just kept thinking to myself you will pass but still I was extremely nervous.

I’ve been taking practise tests twice a day for the past two months and the last time I fail was last month on the 28th, this past week I’ve been taking practise tests 10 times a day and didn’t fail one but today I failed the actually one.

Try studying harder. Knowing that you know the material goes a long way towards having the confidence you are lacking when it comes time to sharpen the old #2 pencil.

Like I said I haven’t fail the practise exams for almost a month.

What ever you are good at maths, programming, French, whatever next time you’re ill in bed imagine taking an exam.

You take stress harshly, i agree with janbb maybe take a small amount of anti anxiety medicine. (dont overdo it tho, you dont wanna be all messed up taking a test). maybe do a bit of meditation. the issue you want to tackle is stress management. ive had similar experiences before really important tests. just do something that will relax you

@dotlin I don’t buy your argument plus what do you mean you didn’t fail on knowledge??? WTH kind of tests are you taking?? Even if you are barfing in a can next to your desk during the test , If you really knew the info then you should pass with flying colors no matter what. I went to college and also had a whole armament of excuses as to why I didn’t do well on my exam’s and after getting my butt kicked around the campus by my dean, I learned to study my ass off and guess what?? I got A’s!!

It was hazzard perception so you have to react fast enough, nothing about knowledge.

I mean this costs me a lot of my own money I’ve read the book five times, I really did practise 1:30 hours everyday apart from the last week were I did a lot more and passed every time.

I would be more pragmatic if I didn’t practise enough and would say “Well that’s what you get for not trying.”

@Cruiser how clearly do you think when you are nervous as hell, and being sick?

The night before lay on your bed in complete silence. Close your eyes and do nothing. Think about whatever comes to mind. This will calm your nerves.

I do eat chocolate before the exam as it releases endorphins.

I got an idea. Stress comes from the adrenal glands, or adrenalin. I have a crazy idea. If you were to overwork your adrenal glands your stress would calm for a while. Try going skydiving the day before an exam.

130 hours everyday, i thought there was only 24 hours a day.

@dotlin Perhaps you are over doing it. You are practicing so much that you aren’t giving yourself a chance to really relax. If you know the information, you know it. Continuing to practice it isn’t going to make you know it any more, but it will continue to add to your stress. As far as the reaction timing, if you are too tired or stressed out, your reaction times are going to be off. I’d really recommend taking the day before the next test off completely from studying. Take a day to do something you enjoy doing and push the test out of your mind (yes that’s easier said than done, but I think it will help).

If you wanted to take an anti-anxiety medication, you would need to talk to your doctor to get a prescription. While that may work for the short term, in the long term, you need to learn how to control your test anxiety without medication (and taking an anti-anxiety medication could also lower your reaction time, so I would really advise against it).

Just puke and go for it. General Patton used to get sick before battles, but won them anyway.

@dotlin Even more so that you must not yet have sufficient of a command of your ability to see, understand and react to these unforeseen and unpredictable hazards to where you are confident enough in your abilities to pass the test.

To get past this you need to believe that not only will you pass the test….you need to believe you will set a new record performance. Good luck!

@shadowofdeath Of course someone that ill will have a rough go of it but they still have to react, still make a decision and still give an answer…you just have to suck it up and do it. It is not always easy but all it takes is knowledge of what you are doing and confidence in yourself to make a decision and a good one at that.

Are you deluded? I’ve done much more than the required amount of time into practising, I take ever lessons I can each week, I read the book five times, I took mock tests everyday practising for 1:30, every time I leave my house I listen to the podcasts, I practised 3 to 5 hours everyday on the last week.

I passed every time I did mock exams, really what more could I have done?
No one else I know did this much before their test and they all passed.

@dotlin No I am not deluded. All I am saying if you had confidence in yourself and your abilities IMO I would doubt you would be having such difficulties performing on the actual test. A lot of people here have offered good suggestions to help overcome your anxiety.

I can only offer that you do some relaxation techniques the night before and again a few hours before the exam. I would practice calming breathing techniques and if you can believe in it, this calming “mudra” called Apan Vaya Mudra will stop a racing heart instantly. I use this all the time to calm my heart down and all it takes is to do the hand position, close your eyes and deep “breathe” into it slowly though your nose and calmly exhale through your mouth. I really hope you can get past this and finally pass! Good luck!
