Do you believe in ghosts?
Do you believe that ghosts exist? When you talk about ghosts what do you mean? Spirits of dead people, angels, demons?

I don’t believe ghosts exist but there might be a possibility for dimensions, parallels, energies that we haven’t yet studied, conceptualized.
I do believe in spirits….ghosts just seem so unnecessarily creepy to assign that term to the many fine spirits out there. My favorite spirit is Chopin.

No.

Halloween.
I keep an open mind as I have never seen one (as far as I know). However, I like to think something exists along these lines whether it be ghosts in the traditional sense or energies etc that @Simone_De_Beauvoir refers to.
I do not believe in ghosts, per se, but like @Simone_De_Beauvoir I allow for the possibility of existence in other dimensions, timelines and other levels of which science is currently unaware.
No, I do not. I do not because there is no conclusive evidence that anything paranormal is real. I am fascinated by the paranormal, but I do not believe in it per se. If convincing evidence comes along, I can definitely change my mind.
To me, a ghost is the “spirit” of a human being or other animal. A demon is an evil creature, it is not related to a human. Hence why the Amityville haunting was so especially terrifying. It wasn’t the ghost of a person trying to get to the other side that was haunting that Long Island house, it was a malevolent inhuman demonic force. At least, that’s how the story goes. :)
Nope, there’s no evidence.
I used to have hallucinations as a child (surprise!) and ghoulish images were a common theme. I’ve seen ghosts. But I still don’t believe in them.
I have a completely (or almost completely) open mind about such things, but in my heart I don’t believe in ghosts (though I must say “Sixth Sense had me going).
What I do believe is that people who have had a powerful influence in our lives leave behind a kind of energy formed out of impressions and memories. If that makes any sense.
I believe that sometimes spirits do stick around and that is what people tend to call ghosts. I am open to the idea of demons and angels as well.
Nah, they’re frightful liars.
“Hence why the Amityville haunting was so especially terrifying.”
Having grown in that part of town. I can tell you, it was one big scam.
I have fond memories of sitting in the back of the yard, on the dock, getting drunk with friends.
No ghosts, just drunken people. :-)
“it was a malevolent inhuman demonic force.”
That only the human mind could cook up.
Okay in my view yes I sorta do. I mean other than horror movies their isn’t any evidence that honestly proves. But I do believe they’re out there somewhere. And demons and angels I do believe. You have a demon inside you and an angel that watches over you.
I have a demon in me.
I just choose to take aspirin then have a hole cut in my head to get the “spirit” out.
Yes, I do. Do I psych myself out over sounds that go bump in the night? Hell no.
No. When you are dead your whole body decomposes, including your brain, which is what forms your personality, memories, ideas and all intentional potential.
I wish I could believe in at least one. Meg’s spirit looking over my shoulder and whispering to me if I’m about to fuck up.
I certainly want to but I’d like to experience something seriously paranormal first before I’m totally convinced of their authenticity.
@Bluefreedom I have experienced the “paranormal” first hand on quite a few occasions. I was a hardcore skeptic myself at one time. I can’t “prove” this to anyone but I know what I experienced. Spirits and ghosts are very real.
@Cruiser ghosts are just spirits that just didn’t cross over into the light yet. Spirits already have crossed over but can come back to visit on certain occasions. Spirits have different abilties than ghosts, one example is that spirits can visit you in dreams, ghosts cannot until they cross over.
@ChazMaz
You realize that by being from Amityville, you’re pretty much my hero now. :) I’m an Amityville fanatic. That is to say I’ve seen every documentary on it, read every book and am completely fascinates with the story. Not so much because I think it’s real (I don’t), just that the story itself is so interesting and bizarre and horrifying that I can’t get away from it. It’s actually inspires a large part of my interest in the horror genre.
I think i do, although i’m not sure what i believe in as far as who and what exactly they are and what they’re doing floating around here. I’ve never seen one, but i’ve experienced the presence of something that one can’t see with the naked eye, and so has my mother several times (even her cat noticed it too). So there’s definitely something going on.
@ChazMaz I’m actually quite dissapointed that the Amityville legend is just something conjured up by the human imagination.
Spirits of the dead are real. And you do not have to have been close to them either. I am sure of it. They contacted me twice by scent. Strong, lovely scent. I have a witness.
That’s all I’m saying.
@Leanne1986
Some of it is just so weird, though, and it doesn’t seem consistent with usual ghost stories. Of course, maybe that was the point. They wanted to make it weirder so it seemed more believable, who knows. One of the “ghostly experiences” George Lutz had was he would wake up in the middle of the night and hear what he described as a “marching band tuning up” in the living room and then he would go downstairs and the noise would stop, but all the furniture in the living room was moved away as if a marching band had just passed through…
It isn’t even scary, it’s just so weird. It doesn’t seem like something someone would come up with if they’re make their house out to be haunted.
Long story short:
A friend was with Ronnie DeFeo the day DeFeo killed his family in that house.
There is a bar on the corner from the house. Ronnie was there having a drink and was talking to this family friend of mine. Then he said, “I need to take care of something at home.” He got up and left. The rest is history.
It always seemed unusual that all these years, and all the Amityville Horror Stories.
You think someone would have done a story on DeFeo and what lead up to the murders.
@ChazMaz
Well, they definitely have done stories on the DeFeo murders. It’s just that is what began the whole saga in the first place; Ronnie DeFeo claimed that voices in the house told him to commit the murders.
Yea, but I want to know what his childhood was like. How did he get along with the others. And how did he get along with his parents.
I think there is a REAL sinister story to be told. :-)
