I’m not 100% sure of the definition of freeware, but I would say Gimp for PC.
I really like Audacity. DivX is something I use at least weekly, but it’s only because I don’t have an alternative.
Transmission, X-Moto, Cyberduck and The Unarchiver
Agree about Audacity for recording and editing. There’s a version for all platforms. It’s great.
Mozilla’s Firefox browser is the best and most frequently used freeware from my viewpoint.
Genesis, a program for the cluster analysis of microarray data is the best freeware (with an academic licence) statistical tool I have ever used to elucidate the multidimensional relationships among datasets and cases. I am only aware of the PC version. I recommend highly for any of you interested in microarray analysis.
A third for Audacity here. I can’t believe it’s free to be honest.
Multi-platform or web app
Firefox
Gmail
Dropbox
Google Docs
Picasa
iTunes
KeePass
FileZilla
Google Calendar
Windows
Paint.NET
IrfanView
@ragingloli I see what you did there.
I like Google Chrome the most, really, but I don’t necessarily consider that freeware in the usual sense of the word. Alfred and Cloud are also pretty heavily used, as is Bowtie.
Those are all mac apps…
Linux itself has to be my favorite freeware.
Firefox, XnView, Media Player Classic:Home Cinema, Avira, and Spybot S&D are also on my list.
