How do I get back to Canada with my husband, from Egypt, while I am in Egypt, with out going back to Canada, using the Family Sponsor from my mother or father? Does anyone know?

Asked by spritzup2020 (1points) August 17th, 2010

I m a Canadian citizen who went to Egypt to marry a man I met online 2½ years ago. We began a relationship and I decided to go to him and marry him. We did. Now that I’ve been in Egypt for about 3 or 4 month’s I want to go back to Canada because I miss my family. I will not leave him here in Egypt again. I was told by multiple people that my mother or father can support him. Can sponsor him, through something called Family Sponsor. He is considered, so I m told, a common in law because I married him. And legally he is family.
I want to know how long it will take to do this, how much, and what are the requirements of it… as well as, what are the chances of being declined and why?

They is a lot of clear information on this website about getting a relative to sponsor your spouse for immigration to Canada.

Beware of immigration consultants who charge large fees to do what you can do yourself without unnecessary charges. All the forms you need are available online.

The criteria for acceptance or rejection of applicants are also clearly outlined elsewhere on that website.

Take your time to explore the website and prepare your documents carefully.

Good luck to you both.

The website Dr Lawrence provided should answer a lot of your questions. His warning about using immigration consultants is also great advice. I used to work for a non-profit Immigration Assistance program through Community Services in BC and met numerous people who spent their entire savings due to misinformation and scare tactics used by such consultant services. I suggest you look for possible non-profit immigration assistance services in your home city and province in Canada (are city and province you wish to settle in). Perhaps you have family and/or friends living in Canada that could assist in researching not for profit resource options. The organization I worked for offered many services including advocating for individual cases, help with paper work and red tape, and a diverse multi-lingual staff.
Having the means and making a commitment to providing any necessary support for a sponsered immigrant is very important. It is also extremely important to fill all paper work/forms out completely and without errors. The process takes time and patience and you do not want to experience setbacks due to overlooking or misunderstanding info you are asked to provide. Unfortunately marriage to a Canadian does not mean immigration becomes significantly quicker or easier.
I can give you a link to the organization I worked for in BC (Abbotsford). I realize you are likely from and/or returning to a different area of Canada, but they may be able to assist in linking you to similar services elsewhere in the country.

Best of luck and, though still in the future, a warm welcome to Canada for your partner!
