Do you know who Laura Linney is?
She’s a wonderful actor whom I’ve admired for years, and now she’s starring in an extraordinary new Showtime series called “The Big C,” about a woman dying of cancer and determined to go out in style. Tell me if you’re familiar with Linney, if you saw the pilot episode of the new series, what other dramas or comedies you’ve seen her in, and mostly, assure me I’m not the only person who knows how terrific she is!

@Austinlad : I assure you, you’re not the only one. I’d love to see The Big C but no SHO so I’ll wait for the DVDs. Let’s see, off hand, Truman Show, Primal Fear and a host of others I can’t think of right now. I find her to be subtle and powerful. Glad you’re a fan, too.
Yeah sure, not my type of movies she’s been in but i’ve certainly heard of her.
I think she is the hidden gem within Hollywood. I thought she was just stunning as Wendy Savage in the movie, The Savages. She was one of the best guest stars on the show Frasier, appearing in 6 episodes. She gave an unforgettable performance in The Life of David Gale. I could keep going, but I’ll leave it at that. You are not alone Austinlad, for I love the work she does & hope she gets the full recognition that she deserves. I’d love to see The Big C, but I do not get that channel, so I will just have to wait.
She is a wonderful actress and I’ve loved her in all her movies. I saw her on stage in The Crucible some years back.
WHEW! I’m not alone. Laura Linney fans, unite. And if you’re not familiar with her work (she’s been around for a while, just barely under the radar), be sure to see P.S.
I heard her speak at Brown University once. She is a Brown alum.
@answerjill Are you? She got an honorary degree at my son’s graduation there.
I’ve seen her in The Truman Show and Adams, plus as Frasier’s girlfriend at the end of the last series. She’s a great actress (and those eyes!), but I haven’t heard great things about The Big C…
I love her work, and I enjoyed the pilot of The Big C (although I wish they had stayed with The C Word).
@Mephistopheles Have you heard bad things, or just no things?
Don’t anybody believe bad things about C. It’s great. LL really gets the chance to cut loose, and the other characters are as quirky as hers.
Unfortunately, we don’t get Showtime so I will have to wait for the Netflix.
@janbb – I got a Master’s in History from Brown in 2000. Perhaps that is when I heard her speak? I can’t remember.
She was so good in The Truman Show that I saw The Squid and the Whale mostly for her.
You’re not alone @Austinlad ! I loved her in The Truman Show and in Frasier. My best friend claims I look somewhat like her. I don’t think so, but I took it as a compliment.
I didn’t know her name until you mention The Truman Show. Can’t wait to see the movie. My sister in law was given 6 months due to cancer spreading. That was last month and she is a fighter too.
I remember her from the Movie Dave
I liked the premiere episode, @Austinlad. I really like all of the characters (minus the son, he is just blah). I’m excited to see how it plays out and how many times I cry. :)
She is one of those actresses that I know and recognize, but can never pinpoint what she’s been. I think she’s underrated!
