Does anyone know of a town built near one mountain? (Details follow)
I had a very powerful dream of a town near a mountain. I won’t go into the details of the dream (which I understand) but I feel that this is an actual place.
I was hoping someone in the Fluther could enlighten me to places in the US/abroad that have a small town built in sight of one mountain….not a mountain range….but one singular mountain that stands out in the distance. It is a small town, not a big metropolis. One place that I know of is Mt Shasta, California…so it would be something similar to this: link
However, I don’t think it was Shasta. The mountain was a bit further than this from the town. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thank you!

Maybe Ouray Colorado?
In a little hamlet at the base of the rockies…awesome and magical place.
what @Coloma said or Estes Park, Colorado. I cannot really imagine a huge mountain all by itself, not comprising part of a mountain range

@Aster In the U.S., they are called a monadnock. Finally…that high school geography class paid off.
@SundayKittens
It is!
I drove through the rockies a few years ago out of Ouray and into avalanche conditions. lol
I live under ‘The Lollipop tree’ in my avatar. haha
Love your name…SundayKittens…cute! :-)
I spent some time in a little town caled Avellino. From my front door I could see a mountain pushing its way up like the bones of the earth, partially clothed in white snow and sometimes clouds. I wish I could find my pictures because now that I know how to use my scanner I could somehow show you. The photo in this link doesn’t really do it justice.
Also, Pompeii and Herculaneum are next to a mountain, but I don’t expect that was what you had in mind.
Orting WA, which is at the foot of Mt. Rainier
a number of towns surround Mt Diablo CA. It’s a lone mountain, can be seen for many miles in many directions. pretty built up now, but Clayton CA is at the foot of the north side.
I’m not sure if you had Europe in mind, but it’s such a magical place, I had to mention it lucerne
I’m not thinking of the city as such, but there’s a village by the Rigi and it’s sublime.
There’s even some house on the mountain.
It’s breathtaking really link
