Thelonious Monk’s “Round Midnight” was sung beautifully by Linda Ronstadt.
It just echos how I felt when I first heard it.

How It Ends by Devotchka (that link contains spoilers for the film Everything is Illuminated. You can listen to a spoiler-free video here.)

This song rescued me from depression. Hooray for music.

A Day In The Life- The Beatles.
Although I am sure it will change, it always does.

Such a hard choice. Id have to go with Divine Moments of Truth . No matter how many times I hear it, it always take me somewhere.

@Sarcasm I saw vnv nation a few years back with And One. Amazing show.

I’m currently having a bit of a love affair with the Glee version of What It Feels Like for a Girl. It’s by no means my all-time favorite, though. I could never pick just one favorite.

It’s a toss-up between Brown-Eyed Girl by Van Morrison and Mr. Bojangles but there are many, many more.

What, it is asked before? ~

I can second almost anything by Pink Floyd but I’m tempted to go with Goodbye Blue Sky It still seems prophetic to me and so telling of the last 100 years of horrific wars.
Oooohh! This one by Bob Dylan may be it

Happy Boy Why you ask?? “Cause I am happy, love Kazoos and every time I here “Hubba hubba hubba Hubba” I feel…Happy!

No. I refuse to choose only one song.

daytonamisticrip's avatar

@papayalily ok choose more as long as you don’t post a huge list.

Mine changes by the hour, if not more often. I guess right at this second, my favorite song is Into The Sea by As Cities Burn.

FireMadeFlesh's avatar

Tides of Time by Epica. My favourite changes all the time, but this one has been at the top of the list ever since I heard it. It is a song that just sends shivers down my spine, and makes me believe in perfection for the briefest of moments. Pay particular attention to the vocals at 2:40 – 3:00.

I’ve Got Tears in My Ears from Crying on My Back Over You

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

Right now I’m listening to You Don’t Own Me by Leslie Gore and Blockbuster and Ballroom Blitz by Sweet.

rebbel's avatar

Okay, one then: Din Daa Daa.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

According to the play count in my iTunes library, this is my favorite song. I’m okay with that.

@Randy Great choice.

SeventhSense's avatar

Ok I finally got it Adaggio for Strings
The greatest song of all time must have a string orchestra.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

In today’s mood, Pink Floyd’s Shine on You Crazy Diamond . It can change to Moody Blues, Renaissance, early Elton John, The Doors, Blue Oyster Cult or Bauhaus at a moments notice.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

@SeventhSense Samuel Barber is an often overlooked genius.

SeventhSense's avatar

@stranger_in_a_strange_land
I think so. That’s one of the most stirring movies of all time as well. It was perfect match.

SeventhSense's avatar

Oh God somebody stop me. There’s this wonder by ELO
Again with those strings
Why are there no bands that put out entire albums of amazing songs like this anymore?

Jude's avatar

@SeventhSense I like what you like.

SundayKittens's avatar

That’s hard, there are 3. Instinct says this

…and Why is because I’ve loved it since I was a teenager and it still makes me stop and listen and swoooooon.

I don’t have ONE favorite song. One of my favorite songs is Get Me Away From Here, I’m Dying – Belle & Sebastian. I love this song so much. For years and years.

I like country right now. I go from country to old rock and back to country.

No One by Alicia Keys because the first time I heard it I was overwhelmed with how positive it made me feel. There are plenty of positive songs that I like but this one, the feeling was very WOW

Akua's avatar

@papayalily I have to agree with you. Choosing one song is like being asked to choose which one of my children I love the most. Torture! I have a list as tall as I am.

daytonamisticrip's avatar

NO LONG LISTS, don’t do it.

Akua's avatar

Uuggggh!! Damn. Ok, but you know this is killing me…

pokopenguin's avatar

A twilight song called “Bella’s Lulaby”

lonelydragon's avatar

Today, it’s “I Thought I Saw Your Face Today” by She & Him, because I can relate to the feelings expressed in it. When my mood changes, I will probably have a new favorite song.

SeventhSense's avatar

@jjmah
Well you have good taste of course.
and if you ever venture beyond the L , I can strum a salsa…or even two.. :)

SeventhSense's avatar

@lonelydragon
Reminded me of this Roberta Flack classic. Truly the greatest love song of all time.
It still brings tears to my eyes…not that I cry of course because I’m a tough guy..must be something in the air.

Congo Square, by Sonny Landreth (but none of the live ones)

flo's avatar

“Scar that never Heals” by Jeremy Fisher.
By the way, re. my posting above, “Congo Square”, don’t go by the beginning of the song. The guitar by Mark Knopfler is the best part.

flo's avatar

“A song for you” by Donny Hathaway. Elliott Yamin, on American idol did it as well.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Today it is the original version of Μισιρλού A speaker system with a woofer is required to do this justice.
Here’s the American pop version. I like the traditional, passionate Greek better. Today, anyway.
