Is it a good idea for airline pilots to use the word 'Should'?

We should be arriving…
We should be landing…

We Will be arriving…
We Will be landing…

I don’t mind that they say “should”. I’ve never heard a pilot say “will”. There are many things that can change during a flight and saying should is being honest. They really can’t guarantee that they will arrive on time.

@Seaofclouds Agreed. It’s like they’re saying “we will, assuming the aliens don’t invade in the next 30 seconds” but without the panic.

Depends on the sentence they use it in.
Good: “We should start our descent in about 15 minutes.”
Bad: “We should have obtained our pilot licenses.” Or, “we will obtain our licenses.”

Why not say “should”? Something could happen between now and then to cause a delay. Then the word police would accuse the pilot of lying.
Here’s a pillow, a hot face towel and a packet of peanuts. Relax sir, we should be on the ground soon. Sir? Sir! If you could just let go….. sir, please unclench…, Bonnie – code three! Where’s that Marshall?

I just cross my fingers they didn’t hit the bar before flying and they are not slurring their words.
