I am going to advertise as a personal assistant/driver. Would this be safe?

Asked by trailsillustrated (16804points) August 24th, 2010

We have been hit by the recession like most people. I am thinking of advertising on craigslist to take people to the airport, or to be a personal driver. I am also thinking about offering house cleaning, dog walking, etc. Would this be safe? Has anybody done this and what were your experiences?

Depending on the state, you may need a chauffeur license to drive for hire.

People do such things all the time so it must be generally safe. I would, however, ask potential clients to give you references before starting to work for them and set up a vetting procedure. They will no doubt ask the same of you.

Check into special insurance issues, especially for the driving part.

you could do a background check on them. Probably good to do. Companies out there that can do such things and usually prices vary depending on how in depth you want.
