no its the sound from lighting

No. There really is such a thing as heat lightning, which in turn can cause thunder. Just as oneye1 said, thunder is related to the lightning, not the rain.

As far as the players loving, I’m afraid that one is true from all my experiences. :(

Yes, players only love you when they are playing.

We’re having thunder & rain right now up in Victoria too

@Randy. There is no such thing as “heat lightning”. All lightning has thunder associated with it. The reason you may see some lighting from storms with no thunder is that they are too far away. Sound travels MUCH slower than light, so if a storm is far enough away, you won’t be able to hear the thunder. But, aside from Fleetwood Mac, thunder can occur when it is snowing. But it is easier to rhyme “raining” with “playing” instead of “snowing” with… I don’t know…“growing”? (sic)

in some cases like a air mass thunderstorm could their be lighting and no rain maybe this is what randy is thinking of be from the south I’ve heard of this term heat lighting alot

Well, lightning can occur when there is no precipitation (it can happen in volcanic eruptions). Oneye, you are right. There can be a storm with no precip, but lightning. In fact, I think this is how many grass fires start. I always heard the term “heat lightning” in reference to lighting that occurs with no thunder.

I do not think randy was saying their is no thunder he was saying no rain

Lol. Well, we’re off subject, anyway. The questions says: Does thunder only happen when it’s raining? Do players only love you when they’re playing? It’s a Fleetwood Mac song. So the answer is “No” Thunder does not only happen when it is raining, and “Yes” I believe by definition, players do only love you when they are playing.

Heat lighting refers to thunderstorms past the horizon, generally thunderstorms far enough away that you do not see them.

Grassfires can be started while it’s raining, a lightning strike does a good job of drying out the grass around it, and then the ensuing fire will dry out the next bit of grass.

Generally, if there’s a storm generating lightning, it is at least raining a little. That rain can evaporate before it hits the ground.

Les is right, however, on the actual question (since other than rain, you get snow, volcanoes, etc.)

I don’t know. I had some dreams but they were clouds in my coffee!! Oh wait.. that’s a completely different song!

I have heard thunder in a snowstorm before. It’s rare, but neat to listen to.

Thunder is caused by the clouds causing static electricity…a lot of it.This means clouds are definetly required, but I’m not sure about water as liquid.
