What have you learned from using Fluther?

Asked by Deja_vu (4157points) August 25th, 2010

Aloha! I am newish. I was wondering, looking around at some of the indepth conversations, and I thought I would ask you jellies: What have you gained? Met any friends? Learned anything about yourselves? What have you learned from using Fluther? Just interested.

I’ve learned in a short time that this place is like no other on-line.
Real questions and real answers, there is humour and wit without nastiness and hating like other sites I’ve been on.

And welcome!

Oh gosh. A lot! I couldn’t even begin to mention the countless things I’ve picked up since using Fluther. It’s like a treasure trove of knowledge.

Welcome. :)

I’m checking out the waters and I like what I see :)

I’ve made quite a few acquaintances. I don’t think I’ve learned much. I’ve learned that I’m fairly hardheaded and sad though. I already knew that before I came to this site though.

I got rid of my hiccups based on an answer to one of my first questions…yay jellies!

I’ve been reminded not to sweat the small stuff. I’ve been given support when needed (the folks here are wonderful!), relationship advice, plenty of laughs and interesting/intelligent and lively discussions. I have also discovered that some people really like to hear themselves talk.

I’ve made some great friends here, as well.

I’ve learned how much “internet” people can come to mean to one and how many new ideas there are to learn about and to expose oneself to.

Luckily,I was a member here when I became a cat owner for the first time. The flutherers saved us both…

Milo here; I arrived, of course, in a state of perfection and sanctification; Gail was hopeless until she got some sensible (and obvious) advice at this forum.

Funny, @Deja_vu, you don’t look newish. I’ve been here for about a year, and one of the best things I’ve learned is, what a great place this is to learn how other people think instead of just assuming how other people think. Even when I disagree with someone else’s views or they with mine, we’re still, for the most part, a community of good people who can discuss the toughest issues without screaming or killing each other. That’s a decent model for how the wider world of opposing views might work.

I’ve gotten some great advice and tried to help others. Met so many great people here. Sadly, it seems many great friends are leaving.

To avoid the General section.

Deja_vu's avatar

@Austinlad Funny you should say that, I’m only a quater newish from my mother side :P

@CyanoticWasp—avoid the general section—bwaaaaaa!

LOL!, @Deja_vu. That means you can stop fasting on Yom Kippur Day at 11:00. ;-)

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

@CyanoticWasp I know what you mean. I’m too chatty for that section. I have to answer the question, then hit “Stop Following” or I’ll be modded for “off topic” for sure.

I’ve learned that there are neat people on fluther.

I’ve learned I can have conversations with people that last for hours and never become bored. I’ve learned good people exist all over the world I already knew that one, but it has been reinforced here.

I have learned that you are all my bitches.
