What is your favorite food to eat fried?
They fry damn near everything now. From candy bars and cookies to mushrooms and zucchini.
What is your fried guilty pleasure?
Mine would have to be fried pickles, though it has been years since I’ve had one. Sounds really good right about now, though!

Shellfish generally, lightly breaded, actually, just a dusting of lightly seasoned pancake batter, a touch of Old Bay, is my favorite way to do it, to do fried. Fried shrimp, fried oysters, fried clams. That’s deep fried. Pan fried and breaded with seasoned bread crumbs I like zucchini and eggplant slices.
If we’re talking bad that would be deep fried Heath bar. Decadent…
Mine would be mozzarella sticks. I just had fried pickles a few weeks ago for the first time ever when I was in PA.
Fries. Otherwise, they’re just boring old potatoes.
@Seaofclouds I’m in Ohio, so the fried pickles might be a regional thing. They are awesome, no?
What don’t I like fried. Fried cheese curds from Wisconsin are to die for.
@TheOnlyNeffie The were pretty good. I was really surprised. I was in Erie, PA and had never seen or heard of them before that trip, so they must be a regional thing.
Fried pickles? It’s an Ohio thing? I will be in Cleveland over Christmas visiting my aunt. Can I get them there? I should at least give them a try before I go “ick.”
We’ve got fried pickles here in central Illinois too. Very tasty!
Tough one. I will go with breaded tomatoes, breaded peppers and potatoes.
As Jim Gaffigan put it, “You could fry a rubber hose and it would be delicious.” I love fried calamari, fried chicken, and french fries. Mmmm :D Fried ravioli is good too. But seriously, frying things like mac n cheese, Oreos, candy, etc. is just overkill to me.
@le_inferno I forgot about fried mac n cheese. That’s really good too. Hmm.. maybe even better than mozzarella sticks.
I love fried pickles too, I get them everytime I go to Hooters. Lol.
Potato logs/wedges are my favorite fried food. They’re so good!
@Seaofclouds I am only about 45 minutes or so from Erie, so it could definitely be regional. If that’s the case, then @lillycoyote ought to be able to find them in Cleveland – that is even closer to Erie.
Tempura——Lightly battered shrimp and vegetables.
Im pretty sure fried pickles are regional, I live in Alabama.
We have fried pickles in WV.
Zucchini!
OMG!
Havn’t had fried Zucchini with ranch dressing in forever!
You people are evil, suggesting a question like this right before bedtime!
Damn, guess some french bread and spinach dip will have to do for now! lol
@le_inferno it IS overkill.
That doesn’t make it any less appealing once in a great while. I would love to say that I’ve never eaten a fried oreo… but I have. And they are good. It’s probably true about the rubber hose bit, because I don’t even like regular oreos.
Hideous and fattening and terrible for you. But, taking the occasional decadent risk is what life is all about, no? ;)
I feel like at some point, people were just like… ‘How do we make food better? Fuck it, let’s just fry everything.’
Ahem…. The name says it all.
@Coloma LOL!! It was the pub thread, they were talking about cheese fries or something, and I realized that if I were out right now I would order the pickles. And my brain just went running with it. So if it is any consolation, I’m craving fried pickles at 12:46am. sorry!
@Frenchfry good call.
Funny, mostly women answered this question.
That’s because all of the men left to go get some fried food. It was GOOD.
Actually anybody eating fried food at this time of night might as well just kiss their ass goodbye or make plans to start carrying it behind them with a wheelbarrow.
@TheOnlyNeffie
Well…a half bottle of some killer red and now, what to eat before bed? lol
I have a giant container of gourmet malted milk balls. Neiner, neiner…
@SeventhSense
Oh jeez, Mr. gloom and doom arrives with a basket of turnips.
Not exactly party fare….sorry! lol
Who brought turnips?! Ew, we’re trying to eat some fried food here. :P Actually, I just ate some mint chip ice cream. Should we try frying that?
@Coloma
It’s like medicine. Bitter going down but you’ll thank me later.
Lately,zucchini…scallops are pretty good too :)
@le_inferno We might as well try it! I’ve had fried ice cream before, it’s really good.
@Coloma
Don’t hate me ‘cause I have killer abs. :)
@Seaofclouds Oh wow! I didn’t know such a thing existed. I was a fool! In theory, it should be good…
Everyone keeps talking about zucchini and it’s making me change my pickles into a veggie basket in my head.
Except this damn image of a wheelbarrow keeps creeping in and interrupting.
@seaofclouds and @leinferno – I think it was chichis that used to sell fried ice cream. I’m guessing, though, because I had never eaten there before it was shut down.
Chicken wings.
I say this, because there’s no other form in which I’ll eat a chicken wing. It has to be deep fried, and slathered with an equally fattening sauce – preferably spicy Buffalo, or Parm Garlic.
@TheOnlyNeffie Yeah, ChiChi’s use to sell it. I’ve had it at several other mexican restaurants as well.
@SeventhSense My eyes! Ahhh! You should probably add a disclaimer to that link.
@lucillelucillelucille
You have fried Zucchini..I knew we had a lot of commonalities.
@SeventhSense
Do you ever have any FUN?
Quick, grab the dental floss I think you have a pine nut stuck between your teeth. lol
@Seek_Kolinahr I’d eat my own thumb if it were slathered in Buffalo sauce… love that stuff.
@Coloma
You shut your fried pie hole and give me some lurve for my first response.
I am the fun beyatch.
@le_inferno Better be careful, then! One false move at the Buffalo Wild Wings, and you’ll de-evolve yourself. Bye bye, opposable thumbs.
Buffalo sauce may single-handedly destroy civilization :O
@SeventhSense
Sugar sugar, want some sugar…okay, but pitch the turnips. :-)
You know I a don;t need a wheelbarrow to roll around my cheery arse! lol
fried pie holes and a basket of turnips….lovin this
Can we fry the turnips, and dip them in ketchup?
@Coloma
Well good.
Peace, sleepy time. Have a nice night peeps..
That said, I have no idea what a turnip tastes like.
@Seek_Kolinahr they taste a little bit like a carrot, but not as sweet. They have a similar texture at least.
Ew. Definitely not ketchup then. Maybe buffalo sauce. Better yet – nacho cheese!
@SeventhSense
Boy, you doin’ 300 push ups before bed?
Pass the turnips.
OOOOOH….ONION RINGS!
She who is slightly looped on wine.
@TheOnlyNeffie and @Coloma Sorry, I think I’m the one who the brought up the cheese fries. It’s really Zen’s fault though. He opened the pub, said drinks were on the house and pubs made me think of beer, and beer made me think of Bass Ale and/or downing pitchers of Shiner Bock and eating cheese fries at the Crown and Anchor in Austin and now everyone is some kind of deep fried, cardiovascular meltdown. I never meant for it to come to this.
Something about the combination of the McDonald’s guy in a wheelbarrow and fried turnips in nacho cheese has ruined my temptation.
That is the second time today that Fluther has caused me to lose my appetite. This place is like a living diet plan. A few more days and I will have lost 5lbs.
white bread fried in olive oil or just some other oil, with eggs and salt and some spices. Long time since I tried it but hey! Its good :P
@lillycoyote
It’s okay, we are all big boys and girls, I think. lol
Face it, when the pubs close everyone wants some stick to your ribs stuff.
I think mexican at 3a.m. is a wonder drug.
@le_inferno :X
I had to come back to edit this comment just to say that I actually teared up from laughing at that.
@Coloma Absolutely. And then we all take a little nap somewhere or another and meet up around noonish in Austin or San Antonio for Huevos Rancheros or breakfast tacos; and Bloody Marys? That is so doable.
You’re really making me miss Texas.
Onion Rings. :) Love onion rings. And I haven’t had any in 2010. It’s been over a year. :(
@lillycoyote
Oh god, that sinks it, bloody mary mexican brunch!
Going out to the hot tub now…sweet fried dreams muchachos!
Oh shit…Sopapillas dripping with honey…..gotta go, gotta go…now, before I start baking cookies or cornbread or something! lol
Asparagus in a ight tempura then sprinkled with parmesan.
@AstroChuck that sounds incredible and now I fully intend to make it tomorrow.
Fried turkey. We had some at an old job I worked at and it was sooo much better than roasted turkey. I’m dying to try a fried twinkie, though.
@Coloma Yikes! I am just hoping and praying that you do not have a “Do not resuscitate” order in place to end your suffering in such a circumstance. You will get through this. Please check in with us when you feel up to it. And not to make you feel bad, but you don’t think that some of the rest of us might miss the unmatched pleasures of the bloody mary mexican brunch? Buck up girl. You’ve been through worse, I’m just guessing on that one, but I’m feeling pretty certain about it.
Sweet potato fries. They’re the best! I eat them with sriracha.
Popeye’s Chicken!
– 3 super huge, genetically modified, steroid enhanced, antibiotic fed – complete morally reprehensible and illogical abomination of animal – 3 breasts – thicker than pint glasses, with crusty madness an inch thick all over.
– a pound of the Cajun mashed potatoes
– another pound of Cajun gravy
– 3 biscuits, w/ 12 packet of honey
– an XL Strawberry pop – ⅓ ice.
Definitely fried mac & cheese. I had some while in Philadelphia and it was absolutely delicious. But then again, don’t most things taste fantastic fried?
Definitely chicken, though I haven’t had really good southern fried chicken since I was a kid.
Here in southern U.S., pretty much everything is battered and fried: okra, zucchini, corn nuggets, corn-on-the cob, fish, chicken and steak, just to name a few. (Here is the menu from one of our favorite local restaurants. Check out the classic platters/side items.)
The only one I can’t pass up is fried dill pickles. Chips are easier to eat, but spears offer up more of the pickle flavor and less of the batter. Scotch eggs aren’t too bad either.
Oh, no. Scotch Eggs are to die for.
Curly fries, curly fries. I love you more than curly fries
@lillycoyote
LOL
You are the buffet queen of humorous retort.
Love it!
Morning now, let’s talk breakfast!
Flattened, fried butterfly shrimp w/cocktail sauce;
fried okra, fried chicken fried, freshly caught bass.
I love fried fish, I didn’t even think of that.
@Coloma I’m having carrot sticks. I desperately need to go grocery shopping, I don’t think I actually have anything else in there right now.
@TheOnlyNeffie
I went shopping yesterday, but right now I am just having my second cup of coffee,
You could make fried carrots. lol
lol, to eat along side of the fried turnips?
@TheOnlyNeffie
I could Fed-ex you a nice big healthy bowl of chicken scratch and some lettuce to float in a bowl of water…goose cuisine! lol
@TheOnlyNeffie Hahaha, I laughed too, mostly cause I knew only you would get it
I’m having fried fish for dinner, (Cod) and fried apple pies. Yummm!
@downtide Mmmm… with lots of malt vinegar. Yummeh.
@downtide Oh, that sounds absolutely delicious.
@downtide Thank you for not posting a photo with a side dish of mushy peas.
Ewwww…mushy canned peas..blech!
England’s mushy peas are not what people in the U.S. are used to. Mushy peas
@downtide
Ding ding ding ding ding +5
Fish and chips rules. One of my favorite meals I had in Scotland. With of course the Fried Heath Bar. Oh my.
Get in my belly!
Oooh….shrimp….you guys are killing me! lol
Fried shrimp fans…just head to New Orleans for a delectable Shrimp Po’ Boy.
@SeventhSense Fish and chips in Scotland is absolutely the best in the world. I pass on the fried battered chocolate bars and pizza slices though. :-x
@downtide
When you come to NY I’ll show you some pizza. Fuhgettaboutit.
Oh I love pizza. I just don’t want it covered in batter and deep-fried. :-x
Deep fried pizza!?? That’s just sacrilege! ::shudders::
Isn’t that technically what those little pizza bites are? Basically deep fried pizza…
I don’t eat those. Phooey! Anathema!
I do eat onion rings, though.
@downtide
God forbid. That would be a travesty.
