I long for the days when........ Which good old days do you long for?

The days when you and your friends sat together singing or talking until late? The time when you were a kid? The days you first met your spouse? For which point in your life do you get nostalgic?
Do you wish you could somehow magically zoom into that time and watch yourself enjoying whatever it was that you loved doing?

My late teens, early twenties.
For the sake of my health, it’s a good thing that I can’t go back. But, man that was fun!
Today I wish I could get on a horse and roam for hours out in the woods and fields like i used to as a teenager.
Sometimes when I’m buried in paperwork working out different types of tax, insurance, and other persnikety issues, I long for the days when the most complex problem I had was trying to get Jonathon K to notice me. He never did. Silly him!
When I could sit next to my dad on the piano bench and watch his hands fly over the piano keys as he played his Dixie Land and ragtime.
You know I don’t really long for the past. I am content in my life in the present.
early childhood, late childhood, teen years. All were wonderful .
I would love to go back , back when I was kid and had no worries in the world. Probably when I was 12. My immediate family was alive and it was Christmas time. We had Christmas every year together
I think of my life as a series of “periods” – early childhood, different houses my family lived in, various stages of school, romances, my time in New York, early marriage, etc. And when I concentrate really hard – though I can’t this it as well as I used to—I can conjure up all kinds of memories of each period and even how I felt during each one. It’s a bitter-sweet kind of thing to do – sometimes more bitter, sometimes more sweet – but either way, it’s a skill or whatever you want to call it that I enjoy.
@Austinlad keep nourishing your soul on the good stuff and may many more good “periods” turn themselves into great memories later on in life.
SAME WISH AS ABOVE GOES TO ALL FLUTHERITES!
I sometimes find myself longing for the days when it was only to be liked by a girl I liked that I longed for—and oh, for that unimaginably sweet first kiss.
I honestly don’t long for any days in the past. I once complained about wanting to go back to “simpler” times with a friend of mine, and he told me “but it wouldn’t be the same.” And I stared off in thought for a long time thinking about it. Never even considered going backwards again. It’s fun to bring up memories, but I’m all about the present now.
I still daydream about owning a Wayback Machine, but that’s more to do with my being silly than anything else.
I feel nostalgic when I look back at middle school and high school days and I wish I had taken more pictures, but I don’t really long for the past (it’s just nice to look back on it), and certainly not decades past or anything like that. I like the present just fine.
@Austinlad
I also think of my life as a series of periods, but I’ve actually numbered them, being the weirdo that I am. I’m on #6 right now and it lasts until 2013 (college years).
@DominicX, mmmm, by your numbering method (which I like), I would be a lot higher.
;-)
I long for the days when my husband was home with me and I can’t wait until he is home again.
I also long for the days when I was working in the hospital. I loved taking care of my patients and spending a full 12 hour shift with the same group of patients. I can’t wait to get back to working in the hospital.
the only time in my life I would like to completely go back to is when I lived in Antigua a few years ago. We lived in a house with no running water, no TV, no telephone, no take out food. Me, hubby and my daughter lived off of just $600 a month and we all slept in one room/bed together. My daughter ran outside naked with the goats and we bathed in the ocean every morning. It was as if we had stepped back in time. A time with no modern convienences or worries. We spent all our time together and loved it. Even the simplest things were a source of entertainment like reading to each other, eating meals on the veranda while looking up at the sun drenched hills and walking along the roads barefoot to visit friends. It was so peaceful and quiet. I miss that more than anytime in my life and me and hubby have decided to retire to that memory. Prayerfully we will be able to leave this country and go back home in about 10 years.
@Akua and I guess when you go back to your old life, there will be absolutely nothing you will miss about your present life, am I right?
@ZEPHYRA The only thing I will miss from my present life is being able to see my daughter whenever I feel like it. Modern convienence is nice but that’s all it is to us is convienent. We are only living here to earn enough money to build a small house and save money. We were heartbroken to have to come back to the noise, dirt, filth and rat race of this city. When I lived in Antigua before I missed nothing of this country (I’ve been back and forth throughout my life) and so shall it be again.
I’m content like @marinelife. Life is good at the moment. I’d rather not relive the past.
