What do you use as your best mental oasis?
Where do you find your mental oasis? Sadly I know some to find their mental oasis in a bottle, or chemical they put up their nose or in their veins. Some fine it in food or hours of mindless video game play. Some find it in social networks or texting anything to anyone at about anytime. Some do find their mental oasis in music, or reading. One of mine is chess, or listening to jazz. What is your best mental oasis when you just want to decompress and give your mind a rest?

meditation is the best method, however the usual distractions suffice, writing poetry or prose, i used to like composing music but, it agitates me.
….and masturbation of course.
driving in the car and getting lost.
It used to be just music and/or the ocean…now it’s more of a resurrected physical/mental feeling…music and the ocean!
Perhaps, something else creative.
Mine is playing games and coming on sites like these. My little escape. It usually helps me relax. I have fun doing it.
I imagine alternate scenarios for movies and books, especially those whose real endings I didn’t like. If I have access to a spinning chair, I’ll spin while I think.
I drive, rain or shine….to my local beach and sit in silence and listen to the sea.
Guitar for sure….it takes me away from the bull shit of life and allows me a moment or two to be free….completely free. When the volume gets to a certain level, my family knows to leave dad alone! ;)
I listen to jazz alone in my car. If it’s raining or really windy all the better. Sometimes this results in a nice nap.
I have a whole range of activities that fit into this. Some of which could be considered work, or related to my primary occupations – such as researching. Looking for answers. I’ve been a bit of a gamer from a young age and I can say it has served me with plenty of hours in the moment – the gaming moment. Currently I’m trying to balance physical and non-physical moments. So biking, walking, dancing and martial arts, swimming in a big body of water – and seeing myself in the middle of it with a big sky above. Music is a must, although silence and writing can also be quite relaxing.
Something I do more rarely due to a slight attachment to distracting technology is meditation. I try and do that after I get myself away from access to technology – turning off my phone and just being there. Getting lost in a forest and getting in touch with my biological instincts – finding my way using my senses.
I could go on – great question, thank you :)
A good hike through the woods does it for me.
I pray and thank God for an opportunity at life, and I marvel at his/her/its wonder.
Sport (doing – not watching)
Driving to a destination with unreasonably loud music
Driving fast in the canyons with no music
Chafed with an evil and unhealthy obsession for movies
Craft beer
@ChazMaz – holy cow! That was GREAT!
@ChazMaz We live right next to an R/C field. I hear the planes all the time on beautiful days. It looks fun!
It is a great way to forget about life for a while and get out of the house.
@ChazMaz ironically, often when you do forget about life is when you’re actually living it.
I walk over to the park that’s by the estuary in DUMBO and have a seat on a convenient boulder. Gazing over the water is extremely calming for me.
in the arms of my partner.
—-@Hypocrisy_Central I’d call that extreme skydiving – wow—
Reading always takes me away from my troubles.
