NSFW? You be the judge. How do you desludge when your fudge won't budge?

You’ve had your high-fiber cereal. You’ve gotten your servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. You’ve been careful to drink plenty of fluids. Maybe you’ve even avoided cheese. You got your daily exercise.
But for all that, you’re singing the frugal Scotsman’s lament after entering a pay toilet:
“Here I sit, brokenhearted.
Paid a dime and only farted.”
Sorry to be so crude, but we all know the feeling. And it’s not a welcome one at all. When that inconvenient truth strikes you, where do you turn for relief?

I had my appendix removed. That helped me out bunches.
Wait it out and drink as much water as I can (let’s just say I have this issue more often than most).
Exlax for those times. I drink a tsp of metamucil (in water) each day because of the meds I take and my lousy diet. So sometimes… In the hospital, I gave out senna and colace tablets but I like the chocolate.
There is a tea called Smooth Moves. You drink it and it is effective 8 ish hours laters. Works like a charm.
Coffee in the morn works.every.time.
(for me)
Ducolax and lots of water.
Coffee works wonders for me as well. Sometimes I can rub my belly counterclockwise for about ten minutes while lying down and all will right itself within an hour after.
I don’t know about Barnacle Bill, but when I use Dulcolax, I almost see the intestine coming out too! Not only does it work, but I have to make sure the intestine is not flushed down the loo along with everything else. I get pains just thinking about it!
When I have issues they usually fall at the other end of the spectrum, and for those who want to thank me for sharing that, you’re welcome, in advance. Like others have mentioned, my morning cup of coffee generally gets my backfield in motion (cue music). But reading really works for me, if things aren’t moving. I always have at least one book in the bathroom. I just relax, take my time, read my book and I’m usually good to go eventually. In the past I have also found that whole wheat fig bars work for me pretty well; the kind I get in bulk from the natural foods/health food store. Paul Newman’s whole wheat fig bars just don’t seem to do it for me.
I wipe with TP and sit on the throne with cheeks spread… with reading material… while clenching and un-clenching… sometimes taking a bath helps
Drink lots of water on a daily basis, not just when clogging occurs. Also All Bran cereal is good.
(I have a cousin whose nickname is Whiskbroom Willie because he always has this problem.)
Luckily, I have to say this is rarely a problem for me.. but when it is I use docusate and like the others above: plenty of fluids.
Thanks for all the great answers. @judochop I would have never guessed an appendix being in or out would change so much. Interesting.
@AmWiser Yep, that stuff will do the trick for me. THe rub is, I don’t know when it’s going to kick in. Same goes for @faye‘s Exlax, @deni‘s special tea (Have you ever tried Dieter’s Tea from Chinese Groceries? Don’t!) @woodcutter‘s Miralax and @BarnacleBill‘s Dulcolax. @TheOnlyNeffie Never tried ducosate but my fear would be like all the rest, for me they act like an evil genius, kicking in suddenly when I am a mile from home or any public facilities.
@hug_of_warFor me, just waiting it out can result in some pretty painful moments. Too much chance of damage to the plumbing.
@jjmah, @Neizvestnaya & @lillycoyote Morning coffee almost always does the trick for me too, sometimes with an interlude of book reading as well. But there are still those troubling times where my system just says No!
I should have mentioned that in my experiences… most of my patients over the years have relied on prunes.
Reading the directions and ingredients on the back of the Febreeze areosol can.
Say candyman three times in front of the bathroom mirror. That’ll have you shitting yourself in no time, possibly!! :¬)
Dance like Tom Jones of course! Loosen things up in a jiffy!
^^ “My, my, my Big-pila”.....:¬D
Go Tom-mey! That was awesome.
I agree with @augustlan. I take it at night and take care of business in the morning.
Milk, cheese, ice cream does it for me. I’m lactose intolerant so those things clean me right out.
Exlax still takes a few hours to work, taken at bedtime, it will work by morning for me. If you like prunes they are also good for your bones.
@augustlan Thanks. I didn’t know the background on that. @Cupcake, thanks for the confirmation that timing is predictable.
@ucme Tried it. It only make me look like a dumb shit in the mirror.
@Cruiser I’m afraid if that’s what I takes, I’ll be full of it for life.
@JubalHarshaw So for you, the cheese ins’t binding. Interesting. Works just the opposite for me.
@faye Prunes taste great and are all natural—well as natural as food gets in these days of genetically modified food and factory farms.
@ETpro Really, well it is said that the mirror never lies ;¬}
@ucme Yeah, I’m pretty sure it isn’t lying in my case. :=)
Getting stopped up after eating tons of fiber means I’ve forgotten to drink enough water and I’m dehydrated. The stuff in my gut has turned to concrete because of this, and I’ve got to work it out gently and stay hydrated.
