What do you think of Robin William's plan for the U.S. and free Western Countries?

Asked by zen_ (6281points) August 31st, 2010

You gotta love Robin Williams….....Even if he’s nuts! Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.

Robin Williams’ plan…(Hard to argue with this logic!)

‘I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here’s one plan.’

1) ‘The US, UK , CANADA and AUSTRALIA will apologize to the world for our ‘interference’ in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those ‘good ‘ole’ boys’, we will never ‘interfere’ again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting withGermany , South Korea, the Middle East, and the Philippines. They don’t want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We’ll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are from. They’re illegal!!! France will welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don’t like it there, change it yourself and don’t hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don’t need any more cab drivers or 7–11 cashiers.

5) No foreign ‘students’ over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don’t attend classes, they get a ‘D’ and it’s back home baby.

6) The US, UK , CANADA and AUSTRALIA will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non-polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don’t like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not ‘interfere..’ They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army.. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don’t need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us ‘Ugly Americans’ any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH…learn it…or LEAVE.Now, isn’t that a winner of a plan?
The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.’ She’s got a baseball bat and she’s yelling, ‘you want a piece of me?’ ’

Woodrow Wilson (pre-WWI, at least) would be proud.

jaytkay's avatar

Without even Googling, I am 90% certain Robin Williams didn’t say any of this.

zen_'s avatar

I got it in email – but no matter – what does the fluther community think of the idea behind it.

bob_'s avatar

I think it’s sad that some people would agree with all of these points.

Seek's avatar

Wow. That’s some hardcore xenophobia.

I hope whoever wrote that has the means to visit a trusted therapist.

well the first point is pretty rotten because it took an eternity for the USA to `intervene’ against European fascism, they quietly profited from the lend lease program with Britain whilst British Cities burnt and where were the UK and USA when democracy was dismantled in Spain only to become the crucible of fascist nationalism and the testing ground for the newly formed and empowered German military. Wasn’t it America that encouraged Saddam Hussein, with slaps on the back and just enough, but not quite enough military hardware to fight a protracted and meaningless battle with Iran that costs hundreds of thousands of lives? And once upon a time wasn’t Noriega the CIA’s man in Panama and on the pay roll?

As for Milosevic, i’m willing to concede that one. But what happened in Rwanda? well i guess savages like them are beyond salvation anyways.

How very isolationist. (And Robin Williams is a pretty bright guy. I suspect that if he did say this, it was tongue in cheek.)

This plan is ridiculous. Sounds more like extreme right-wing propaganda to me.

jazmina88's avatar

well, i like it…..i’m sacastic…..but i do like it

better plan than the ones we have

rebbel's avatar

Are you sure it isn’t a draft text of his new stand-up show?
Because it’s effing hilarious!~

Ben_Dover's avatar

If Robin did say this, all I can say is he’s losing his touch. Not funny.

Here is the scoop from Snopes – the urban legend mythbusters. There is also a link to where they have last tracked down the origin of it…back in 2003.

I’d like to think that it is tongue-in-cheek. I hope it is.

Hey, so that’s where I left my comprehensive plan to ruin world opinion of the United States and to turn the US into one of the most isolationist and, literally, isolated countries ever.

1. Belies the fact that we put some of those people in power in the first place and the fact that American corporations did brisk business with these regimes (such as IBM’s development of “inventory” systems for Nazi concentration camps.

2–4. It would be interesting to see what a civilization looks like without the benefit of an underclass.

5. Most “al Qaeda” type terrorists are well educated, at least that was the leading thinking among those who studied terrorism in the aftermath of 9/11. Nowadays, though, it seems the definition is expanding to include anyone, including Americans, who become “radicalized” in their disagreement with the prevailing agenda. So I’d say this reference is outdated.

7. Pretends that there’s a “we” and a “they” in the equation. “We” made a deal with “them” after the gas crisis to modernize their country’s infrastructure so long as they kept the flow of oil coming. Also dated in the sense that China and other rising industrial powers would be happy to take the oil of our hands. Ignores the fact that the reason we’re fighting in the Middle East in the first place is to secure oil resources.

8. Belies the fact that we pretty much do this already to whatever extent we can get away with as a form of population control and to suppress the governments of other countries. Belies the fact that weather weapons are used to create natural disasters for this purpose.

9. That’s a good start for building a world government that’s inaccessible to the people.

10. Isn’t insistence on English-only communication rather ugly and rude? Does this mean our subsidized food industry will stop producing unhealthy food? Does this mean the media will stop filling our heads with trash television and nooz?

jaytkay's avatar

I think it’s an ignorant rant by someone with a five-year old’s self-centered understanding of the world.

People I know like that are clueless about their own radical cluelessness. They think normal people like Robin Williams would agree with their hatefulness.

jfos's avatar

I don’t like it. It’s:
—not funny
—pretty ignorant
—very ignorant
—mildly offensive
—shameful that someone else is defining an American personality that I would hate to be judged as
—shitty
—not funny

I’ve seen calls for more legitimate action on public bathroom walls.

The mere threat of pulling out becoming totally isolationist would have many many people crapping their drawers. Especially if they thouht we were serious. Our current leaders don’t have the stones to even think about even calling in money we loaned, much less pulling up the bridges.

bob_'s avatar

@majorrich You mean money the US borrowed?

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

What do I think? I doubt it would serve the US’s national interests to become isolationist.

Dr_Dredd's avatar

@jfos You mean call 867–5309 for a good time?

CMaz's avatar

I kind of like it.

AstroChuck's avatar

No way Robin Williams said all of that. I’ve seen him talk about politics on Bill Maher’s show a few times and he’s definitely no xenophobe.

YARNLADY's avatar

It’s definitely a joke, #3. France will welcome them. is a direct reference to the fact that France is currently evicting all the Roma from their country.

zen_'s avatar

It was written before the Sarcozi Roma escapades. And you know what; they are a real menace – read the NYT articles first – then decide. They are not Mexicans; they simply do not work at all and are responsible for most of the drug traffick.

AstroChuck's avatar

@zen_ – No disrespect but you’re kinda painting with a large brush, don’t you think?

zen_'s avatar

Wait, I’ll show you – besides, I can play global politics and have an opinion now and then. Debate me, or have sex with me. Your choice.

AstroChuck's avatar

Hmm. Sex does sound enticing…

CMaz's avatar

Why don’t you two get a room

zen_'s avatar

We always have a thread room just for these occasions. Jealous Chaz? Threesome?

CMaz's avatar

Ooooooo threesome!?? Hmmmmm

zen_'s avatar

Say when and where.

But we should get some females, too. It’s starting to be Gay.

CMaz's avatar

I thought you two were females

zen_'s avatar

We are, Chaz. But with you – big boy – we’ll need more.

bob_'s avatar

* quietly tiptoes away from thread *
