Are you leaving for Earl?

Asked by MissA (7396points) September 1st, 2010

Do you leave for hurricanes or wait them out? We’re midcoast United States and Earl is upon us.

Well, it depends on whether you are in the path of the storm surge (that is, right on the water). Otherwise, you should not have to evacuate.

PM me if you want more information.

The only thing that would get me out of my house would be storm surge.

Otherwise, I like them, brings friends and neighbors together. Been through plenty, good excuse to have a party.

I like weather…as long as I am relatively safe. Coming from the midwest where tornadoes are king, it’s been interesting here. I left for Isabel, and it ended up being worse inland than on the coast. I’m planning on staying…just wondering what y’all think.

Batten down the hatches. Have a safety plan in place.

Pop some popcorn, light some candles and give each other facials. :-)

I board the windows, get supplies, and wade them out.

We’re only a few minutes from the shore. I’m skeptical about Earl. Since I’ve lived in CT, there have only been a couple of hurricanes that could possibly affect us, and they always petered out before they got this far. I’ll make sure we’re all set in case we lose power, but I’m not leaving. I kind of hope we get a really good whopper of a storm that stops just short of being destructive or knocking out power. I love storms!

I’ll keep an eye on the news, but I’m not losing my mind over it. :)

@MissAusten It is my understanding that they peter out because of the colder water up your way. We live at the northern tip of the Gulf Stream. Right now, our ocean water is very warm, which hurricanes love.

After I left home during Isabel, my husband bought a huge whole-house Cat generator…so, we should be okay with the power outage possibility.

I have family that moved here several months ago…they’re vacillating between being scared to death and wanting to be like a local “ridin’ it out”.

@sliceswiththings It hasn’t arrived yet. We’ll try to keep you posted. I don’t look anything like Jim Cantori!
