Do you find the kids in this video as stunningly athletic, amazing and foolhardy as I do?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47068points) September 1st, 2010

This is incredible!! The young athletes of this world will never stop inventing new things.

Funny though…you’ll see a disclaimer at the beginning that says, “This is in Afrikaans…” however it’s only music till the very, very end, then there are some words spoken. And the word ”(Oh) Shit!!” is apparently the same in any language. :)

Naturally Me…apparently these crazies are YOUR people! Did they invent this in order to run from lions?

I’ve a friend who does this (no where near this level, but he practices at night when he gets off work if that balances anything.) They’re all nutters, but nobody can deny their athleticism :) It’s deeply fascinating to watch.

@muppetish Absolutely! Fascinating….and from a mother’s perspective, terrifying. They truly think they can’t be seriously hurt/killed. I guess….I wonder how that last kid ever got down? Wonder if he broke both of his legs when his fingers gave out??!!!

@Dutchess_III I was wondering that myself, haha. I wish the video had gone on a bit longer to satisfy our curiousity. Maybe he has superpowers.

Incredible! Wonderful! My heart was in my throat the whole time. I’ve seen some stuff like this before, and I assumed they were american kids. It’s called “Urban….something” But author James Redfield says that we humans limit our physial capabilities ourselves, and that we can do much more than we allow ourselves to believe we can do. I think these kids are living proof of that.
As a mother and an old EMT, I see the potential for injury. I can’t help it. It’s a good thing they don’t have me there wringing my hands and gasping.

I showed some of this stuff to my son a couple of years ago—when he was still into gymnastics, or maybe just before he got interested. He thought it was cool, but…..

Well, on our recent vacation, there were these rock formations near the ocean and he would leap from rock to rock in a way that I never would do even if I could do it. Sigh. At 54, I’m really having to slow down. Anyhoo…. It’s fun to watch. I don’t think my son will ever get into it, but I’m not sure I would mind. You have to be really physically fit and agile to do that kind of stuff.

I wonder what happened to that dude hanging from the window sill at the end?

I was watching for all the possible injuries the whole way through it. These guys definitely are very athletic. If my son ever got into something like that, I don’t know what I would do. Knowing me, I’d make some kind of emergency first aid kit for him to take with him every time he was going out to do it and make sure he always had other people with him. I’m glad he was already in bed when I watched that.

Oh, I love these videos. This one was my favorite video for the longest time.

There’s no end to what the body is capable of. I enjoy that stuff immensely and I was constantly jumping and doing crazy stuff as a kid. Today’s nuts are tomorrow’s stunt men. My latest work out is equally fun. Working out should be like the playground. I aspire to what this guys does.
P.S.-This guy Hannibal is seriously impressive but he didn’t invent it. It’s gymnastics and it’s been done for centuries

Insanity! Don’t they teach about gravity in their schools?

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

If I caught my kid doing this I’d absolutely kill him.

I could sit and watch this for hours.

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies, how would you catch your kid if he were doing this? He’d be on the roof before you could take two steps.

Holy shit… must feel fantastic!

Incredible, isn’t it. In a foot race the cops wouldn’t stand a freakin’ chance against those kids!

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. BOTH, it is quite a display of athletic ability but some of the maneuvers seem quite foolhardy. Many of those leaps and such could be fatal or havng them crapping in a bag the rest of their life should they falter at the wrong time. I am surprized they are not stunt doubles in ninja flicks, etc. It also seems like a good skill if you are going to be a purse snatcher or burgler. It would be as if you were robbed by Spiderman, by the time you figure out what had happened they would be 3 builting tops away.

@Hypocrisy_Central The simple response to that is, They’re Teenagers. They are also immortal.
Also, why do kids, or anyone, develop any athletic skills that have no use outside of just being able to do it? Motorcycle racing, skateboarding, football, basketball, foosball, ....you name it. They’re doing it just to be doing it.

I lost my bookmarks a few weeks and go, and I spent 45 minutes looking for this video online the other day but couldn’t find it. But now I’ve found it! Yay!
