Scenario #1: you’re commuting from work to home via public transit, you’re about to board the train and realize you’ve lost your transit pass and you do not have any cash or bank card on you. What do you do?
Scenario #2: you’re on a solo road trip in the middle of no-where and your car breaks down. No cell phone signal. No one in sight for miles. Now what?
Scenario #3: your rent is due tomorrow (and there’s no grace period). Payday isn’t for another week, and you’ve got $20 in the bank. Resolution?
Scenario #4: you just remembered a major paper due by 4pm and it’s now 12pm. You need to turn it in on time to get a passing grade. What will you do?
Scenario #5: Any recent situations requiring on the spot creative problem-solving?
How do you act/feel/think when you’re in an unexpected situation? Do you panic? Cry? Throw a temper tantrum? Or what?

1. Get off the bus and call for a ride.
2. Hunker down and bust out my emergency kit, light some flares and wait for someone to drive by. A lot of this depends on where you’ve broken down. The climate, how desolate the area is on a normal basis, etc.
3. Start pawning. Shelter is necessary… stuff to fill it is not.
4. I never went to college so I’m not entirely sure how this works, is taking a sick day an option?
5. That’s life.
I’m usually not one to panic in an authentically serious situation. If anything, I might have even sharper clarity when the circumstances call for it. No one ever got out of a bad situation by freaking out, you have to think of a solution.
To tell you the truth, I have a one size fits all solution to that type of problem which I always use – Plan ahead, be prepared and pay attention.
When it is entirely out of my hands, such as a plane delay that causes me to miss my connection, I immediately ask the airline personnel to assist me.
Financially, I always make sure my fixed obligations are set aside in advance, and would never find myself without rent, when a payday is coming.
The best solution for any ‘problem’ that you have control over is to think ahead
