Crack cocaine is powder cocaine cooked down to a more pure form. You get a more intense high when you smoke it. Cheap to buy a hit. Drugs are bad… drugs are bad mmmm kayyyy

The question was brought on by me seeing an article about Paris Hilton and how she was caught with one or the other.

Crack is the solid form of freebase cocaine, so it is more potent. Cocaine is the powder form, and it is less potent.
Both are highly addictive and are quite expensive – in terms of both money and your life.

Crack cocaine is crystallized and requires you to vaporize it in order to smoke it. Powdered cocaine is well powder and can be easily snorted.

Power cocaine is a also called cocaine hydrochloride which is a salt. It is water soluble. This makes it good for insufflation or snorting where it dissolves in your mucus membranes and soaks into the blood vessels. Also if you inject you want powder cocaine is preferable because it easily dissolves in water and then can be injected. If you try and smoke powder cocaine most of it is destroyed by the heat instead of being vaporized. Powder cocaine can be combined with water and baking soda or less commonly ammonia to change the cocaine from a salt to a base. It produces hard chunks of the drug called freebase or crack. It is not very water soluble. If you bust up a crack rock and snort it nothing much is going to happen. If you throw it in a spoon and put water on it the crack rock will just sit there. Because of its chemical structure cocaine base has a much higher vaporization point and instead of most of the cocaine being destroyed by the heat it reaches the lungs as a vapor and can produce higher cocaine blood concentrations. This gives it a faster and more intense onset than snorting powder cocaine. It is possible to turn crack cocaine back into a snortable or injectable powder by mixing crushed crack cocaine, water, and an acid like vitamin c pills, lemon juice, (absorbic acid), or vinegar (acetic acid) then mixing it up and drying off the water.
