What exactly is the difference between Nicole and OPI?

Asked by MyNewtBoobs (19069points) September 2nd, 2010

Why aren’t all Nicole colors just part of OPI’s regular line? I haven’t been able to find anything about Nicole, one day it was just sorta there…

Is it possible that Nicole colours are the latest trend and the Opi colours are the true and tried dihards?

@Seaminglysew Not really. OPI is constantly adding new colors to its line.

OPI is the parent brand, whereas Nicole is a specific collection. You can get OPI nail polish that is not Nicole, but you cannot get Nicole that is not OPI. It’s like having a small designer collection as part of your overall brand—it most likely targets a different consumer than the rest of your brand. Looking at both websites will give you a good indication of the target consumer for each brand. OPI, the parent, looks more serious and glamorous, while Nicole looks like they are trying to reach youngsters who just want to have fun.

So then how do they decide which color will go where? And why does Nicole smell?
