How does the Greyhound bus work?

Asked by musicislife75 (97points) September 2nd, 2010

How does the Greyhound bus work? I don’t know how it works. If I have to transfer, how will I know where/when I have to transfer?

You can ask the driver beforehand to alarm you when you reach the transfer location.
He’ll gladly do that, i suppose.

You can go to the Greyhound website, type in your travel details, and then you get a list of different trips available. If you click on Schedule Details, you will see your exact itinerary, including the details of any transfers. When you know your transfer city, it’s easy; the driver will call out the name of each stop and you just get off at the one you need to.

It is very easy. Follow the advice given above. Bring a book and a snack.

call them, sometimes the greyhound site isnt accurate. i know from experience, especially with the greyhound bus from philly to different parts of new jersey and back which i have taken a handfull of times in the last 6 yrs, but rare at that especially anymore. calling the philly greyhound is always a chore bc its mostly disconnected.. the main line anyway and then when you call the luggage line they never know what theyre talking about. anyway, try calling. if its leaving from or going to philly good luck. it takes 3 hrs from philly to a shore town in new jersey which should only be 1hr and ½ drive, but with allll the stops takes 3 hrs and a “check point” at ft. dix military base in jersey where one of the guys gets on the bus and checks everyone’s i.d.‘s also the bus is very uncomfortable but i guess can’t beat it for a 12–14 dollar ticket each way and no tolls or gas money do you have to put in for. any further then 3hrs i dont know if i could take. the seats with the bumps in the road hurt your ass quite a bit.

the last time i took that bus coming home from wildwood, nj in mid july with an OLD “friend” after another one of our “friends” got a d.u.i. ending up in jail, his car towed and left us stranded we needed to take the greyhound back to philly the driver was nice and stopped at a wawa so we could go to the bathroom and grab a snack or drink. this was the only time this happened. i guess bc he- the driver himself had to pee. regardless it was cool. that was the final straw on the asshole of america aka new jersey for me and my outlook on it, just another thing added on to my already completely poor opinion of the state for numerous reasons i’ve experienced. ;)

You’ll get an itinerary when you get your ticket. They’ll tell you where to transfer petunia. Don’t worry, you won’t get stranded.
Few people realize Greyhound started from humble beginnings
