I believe alcoholism is being an alcoholic.

There are signs..like If you drink prior to going out with friends and drinking with them just so you can appear as drunk, you might be an alcoholic.

If you have a hard time controlling yourself while drinking, especially in a social situation. For example you are always getting hammered when you go out.

Can you goto a bar on a Friday night and simply drink water?

Do you binge drink a lot?

Overall I think if you have a very increased tolerance, and in some cases physically rely on alcohol, then you could be suffering from alcoholism.

If you’re putting vodka in your orange juice at breakfast then that’s bad.

@Lightlyseared Mmkay?

The minute you disregard your rational mind you’re an addict. Otherwise you’re just drinking a lot. Having the power to rationalize any drug gives me the freedom to be high and drunk all day long.

My mother used to buy a half pint of Georgi Vodka wrap it in a brown paper bag and drink it through a straw, while she was walking in the street. She came to visit me in the hospital maternity ward after I had my first child and she brought beer. See a pattern?

@Rarebear

Hm…

Your answers to this alcohol screening test suggest that you are at risk of problem drinking or alcoholism. The authors of this test would recommend that you contact your doctor about your drinking.

Because once, I thought about not ever drinking again (score one for “Have you ever thought you should cut down on drinking”) and because I feel guilty about any self-indulgence (Have you ever felt bad or guilty about drinking) – congratulations! I’m an alcoholic!

Yet another test full of sweeping generalizations, and guilty of using the word ever, so if anyone took it without being dishonest, they would fail.

I’m a recovered alcoholic with over 11 years of sobriety. I learned that I had to diagnose myself as an alcoholic for it to really be effective. No one else could do it for me.

I also learned that if I think I drink too much, I do. If I think I have a problem drinking, I do. If I think I might be an alcoholic, I probably am.

When you can’t live without it ? When alcohol effects your life in a negative way, you lose your job,and family problems ( alcohol involved) and health problems.. Sadly though alot of alcoholics have to hit rock bottom and lose everything before getting help.

If you obsess about it or seek it out. If you stop for a few on the way home to help the ease the nerves, if you hide it or lie about it, if you convince yourselves or others that you’re not an alcoholic, or if you just drink too damn much of the stuff you’re an alcoholic.
