Is a full size comforter way to big for a twin bed?

Asked by sml (107points) September 4th, 2010

I just ordered a comforter I loved, but it didn’t come in a twin. I got the full but am worried if it will look ridiculous.

Who cares if it looks ridiculous, if you like it own it. I don’t know about your friends, but any of mine that I would invite into my bedroom wouldn’t be worried about what the bedding looks like.

A full size bed is only 15 inches wider than a twin so the cover will only hang over 7½ inches on each side.

I’d say no. I have a queen size bed, but use king blankets because I don’t like my blankets scruching up and falling off. Who sees your bed close enough to notice the size of blankets except you? So don’t worry about it.

The length hanging down would also be determined by how thick your mattress and boxsprings are. If you have a pillow top mattress and it’s 15–18 inches, you may even need a full size to fit down the sides, I prefer a longer comforter down the sides so when I turn over, I’m still covered.

i would definitely always buy a full size for a twin bed. i believe the length of both mattresses is the same, so it’s just the width that will be different. better to have it a little bigger than to have it not big enough, and if ever someone sleeps in your bed, you’ll want a slightly larger comforter to cover both of you.

How big are the measurements of the comforter? It should say. Then pull out your tapemeasure and see how much it will hang over the sides. On a regular height bed with a normal box spring and mattress it will probably be ok, but almost hit the floor. If you have a platform bed without a box spring, it will be too big. It really depends on your bed.

That sounds spectacularly snuggly! This way, you’ll be able to wrap yourself up a lot more during winter. I think that was an excellent choice. :)

I’d much rather have the extra material, for all the excellent reasons above.

I think the extra covers are better than the “right” size on a twin bed.

I think it would work.

In my opinion, comforters made for twin beds are way too skimpy. A full size will be much better.

I ordered a comforter for my twin bed, and they gave me a queen instead of twin size. It’s perfectly fine. The plus side is that because it hangs well over the side of your bed, it’s very hard to kick the covers off when you are sleeping.
