Should I be Concerned about My Dog?
I have noticed that my dog (a miniature poodle) leans her waist to her left side a bit when she runs or walks. It has always been like that, and I hadn’t thought anything of it until I realized that other dogs don’t walk that way. It doesn’t seem to hurt my dog at all and poodles are very flexible (she can stand and walk on only her back legs when she wants to) so that might have something to do with it. I still wonder if I should be concerned though. Does anyone know if something is wrong with my dog, and if so what should I do?

I would not worry too much about it if the dog is not in pain. You might ask your vet when you take it to get its next shots or checkup.
It’s worth calling the vet to ask. I don’t want to worry you, but hip problems in poodles are fairly common.
Hip Dysplasia: The hip joint is a ball and socket connection. If the joint is malformed the head of the femur will not properly align with the cup of the hip socket. This misalignment can range from mild to severe. In mild cases, with proper diet and exercise the animal can lead a full and active life. In more severe cases surgical correction or euthanasia are the only alternatives. Diagnosis is generally done with an X-ray. The two preferred testing and rating systems for this condition are Pennhip and OFA certification.

I had a boxer that did that and have heard other boxer owners say that their dogs run like that. It was quite comical to watch. My vet never found anything wrong, so it was just a characteristic in my dog. But to ease your mind, ask the vet the next time you are there.
If your dog’s behaviour is normal and she doesn’t appear to be in any pain, I think it would be okay to hold off and talk to your vet on your dog’s next visit (assuming she goes in for regular appt’s). If she has always been this way and it has not been an issue or gotten worse, its likely either just the way she is and harmless or something not posing an immediate threat. Keep an eye on it and get her to the vet if it changes or worsens or if you want to alleviate your concerns. Good luck :)
I saw this on dogs 101. It’s something to do with a birth defect, i think. It’s very rare and gets worse over time. Bring your dog to the vet so they can treat her.
My Queensland Heeler Terrier does that, and occasionally lifts his from paw as if limping. We discovered he has a fractured disc in his neck – expensive X-rays – and now we give him pain pills occasionally when he appears to be in pain.
