Looking for the name of a Brit. novelist who wrote about Oxbridge.

Asked by gailcalled (54647points) March 10th, 2007
He did a series about life among the pedants at Oxbridge between the World Wars. The most famous is about choosing a new headmaster for one of the colleges. His writing is sophisticated and overly arcane. (For ALM, this guy used "phthistic" for "tubercular" all the time...used to annoy me since there is such a thing as overdoing it. :->)

An English major friend has taken me out of my misery. Novelist is C P Snow and book is THE MASTERS; about Cambridge U (UK) from a long series called STRANGERS AND BROTHERS. That's a read to improve one's vocabulary (and solve any severe insomnia problems.)
