Why are police referred to as the "five-o" or the "fuzz", and what do they mean?

I’ve heard cops are called the five-o or the five, and sometimes “the fuzz”... what do they signify?

“Five-O” comes from the old TV cop show Hawaii 5–0, originally broadcast on the CBS network in the US from 1968–1980, and is still in syndication in many parts of the world. It’s also on DVD. It’s also gotten a 21st century makeover and is going to be on North American TV again in a few weeks.

As for “the fuzz”, read this.

Book ‘em, Danno!

Hawaii Five O, was the name for the state police in Hawaii. it became a tv series in the 60s and 70s. there is a new version now on television, which is nowhere close to being as good or accurate as the original. bad idea. “book ‘em Dano”.
