in the movie butterflys are mentioned several times and I was wondering if there is a connection at all with “butterflys”

Butterflies don’t really mean anything. It just reminds Neville of his wife and daughter because the last thing that he remembers from his daughter is her doing the butterfly thing with her hands.
but it has connections thru the whole movie…1.his daughter does it with her hands..2.his dog is staring at the butterfly ..3.he sees it on the monsters shoulder and then last in the glass..? Some connection..? Many about him saying its gods plan
i agree with dpena. i dont think it means anything but that it was just a way for the director to connect things together. the last thing neville remembers his daughter saying is “look at the buttefly daddy” and then when the vampire is trying to break through the glass the glass cracks in the shape of a butterfly and it was kind of a moment of clarity for neville. everything just came into place.
the butterfly is in both the theater version ending and the original ending.
here is the original ending.
