Is the WeSC Alp Horn really worth the price?

Asked by shniernan (986points) September 8th, 2010

So I’m back again, Fluther. What can I say, you’re the one for me! :D But anyways, I have been looking into over-ear headphones recently ( @jerv – since you helped me find the other ones.) . So I’ve decided I like the whole retro “square” headphones more than the circles. And after much research I saw the Alp Horn’s…. (Black).

I was in shock. THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE BORN IN HEAVEN, CONSTRUCTED IN THE FORGES OF AWESOME.

Well…. Actually the more I looked into it, the more flaws I came across.
1: Is $120 REALLY worth it?

2: It’s really big…. O.o I’m 13.

3: I’m worried about comfort, the small padding on the inside doesn’t exactly look appealing.

Well… Maybe I’m just worrying, you tell me fluther! Thank you for any/all help!

Sidenote: My backups are

WeSC Pick-up (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QCZPCE/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002IBV03K&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1E2KCH57G1EPVDVKCSNH)

Koss Portapro (http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1283991187&sr=1-1)

Any info on those would be great too.

I have some WeSC headphones, and i love them, but I definitely wouldn’t pay 120 dollars for them. They’re good quality, but not 120 dollar quality in my opinion. Also, mine are really comfortable. Maybe you could get some of the cheaper WeSC ones. They run as low as 35 dollars I believe.

@isuppose – did you check out the back-ups? The first one is a WeSC for around 25.

Sound quality wise, probably not. You could get a pair of Sennheisers that blow those out of the water.

If looks are worth the price, though, go for it.

@dverhey – Yes… the looks are part of it, but what I am asking is, does one of my other selections beat it soundwise? Because I think they all look good, and if one surpasses another soundwise, I’ll buy it.

However, if they ALL have horrible sound and one just sucks less, please tell me.

I have absolutely no experience with WESC headphones, but I do know a friend who has those Koss Porta-Pros. He says they’re nice, but god damn, those are some ugly headphones. They’re way uglier in person.
Sound quality is in the “you get what you pay for range” with those, at least.

For some nice, cheap over ears, though, I really like the Sennheiser HD202’s. I use them for recording and producing, and the sound quality is about as good as you can get in the price range. They could be a little bit more durable, though, that’s the only fault I have with them.

If you are willing to pay around 100, though, Shure SRH440s are the way to go. Best over ears I’ve tried.

@dverhey – I have seen the portapro’s in videos…. Maybe I have a bad fashion sense. Oh well… I like em. And the Sennheiser HD202’s would be a good back-up for my back-up, but maybe I’m getting ahead of myself.

But yes, this is mostly style right now. If I was a real lucky boy, I would get a stylish one, a style/sound combo, and a sound one. And I might… I just need to save money.

So thank you for the sennheiser reccomendation.

@shniernan I’m not sure about the $25 ones, but I have these and I love them.
