…or do you know there’s another job out there you’d enjoy more.
Why do you stay at the one you’re at (money, convenience, don’t want to start career over)?

Whatever job I happen to be in is the job for me. They change all the time.
I love my career, but I don’t like my current job. Once we move, I’m hoping to get back into working at a hospital and doing the things I love again. The only reason I’m staying in the one I have is because we will be moving sometime in 2011 and I don’t want to get a new job just for a short period of time.
Oh, hell no. I just needed something so I wouldn’t be a cashier anymore. I need money to get my life started, aka move out of my parent’s place. In an ideal world where I could have the luck and oppertunity to persue my ideal career, it’d be in the science community.
Honestly, I enjoy being a machinist. It uses my brain, allows me to get my hands dirty, and while my current job doesn’t pay much, a skilled machinist can earn decent money.
Oh, and I don’t have to deal with customers.
I think so, I was a nurse. I found it fulfilling if sometimes challenging, and I mostly enjoyed the people I worked with. Otherwise, it would have had to be something to do with books.
I’m pretty sure I’m where I wanna be. Or where I wanted to be. Got a bit of a drinking problem though, so it gets in the way. But WAAAY better what I’m studying now than working in hotels or Zellers, that’s for damn sure.
@Symbeline huh! I once worked at Zellers- can’t even bear to shop there!
Not at all. I am very aware that the job I am in is not helping me reach my full potential but it keeps a roof over my head and food on the table whilst I work towards the job that I am best suited to.
I would love to change careers. I have 15 years of work experience and schooling behind my current occupation. I loved it (industrial maintenance) at first but now I have absolutely dreaded going to work for the last several years now. I should have went into a scientific field (I think I may have missed my calling). You always hear about not knowing if you’ll like something unless you try it, sometimes the reverse is true.
At first i wasn’t. I studied law and realized that it was not for me, and practising it started to become hell for me, i hated going to work and it made me a little depressed. Now i’m owning and managing barbershops with my husband and dad, and am much happier than i used to be. My time is my own and i work from home with my husband.
However, what i’d really like to be doing is something creative. A short while ago i discovered beading was fun, and then i started doing scrapbooking (not that this is a career opportunity) and that led me to card making, which i’ve just started learning about. If i could make money doing that (and beaded and other gifts etc) i think i’d be in job heaven. So i’m workin’ on it now. :D
