How can I access the free health care system in San Francisco?

Asked by norah (244points) September 12th, 2010

My insurance premiums are about to shoot up and I’m wondering if it makes sense to use the SF free insurance, but I’m not sure how to check into it.

As far as I know there is no free health insurance program in SF, or anywhere in this country. There are a number free clinics that provide care to people that don’t have health insurance. These really are meant for people that are below the poverty level, so you might want to verify that you qualify before dropping your health insurance.

@norah
you can sign up or find information on healthy san francisco in any of the community health clinics or in the lobby of San Francisco General Hospital on 22nd and Potrero Ave (#9 bus on MUNI from Market St).
