How do I fix a bike lock?

Asked by ouwa (19points) September 12th, 2010

I accidentally jammed my OnGuard U-shaped bike lock. There are two parts to the lock: a metal “U” and a straight part that contains the combo and snaps into the U.

There are two ends to the U. One is straight and the other is slightly curved. You are supposed to put the curved end in first, but I somehow jammed the straight end in first. Now, I can’t attach the curved end or unattach the straight end.

Any suggestions?

If you can’t free it fussing with the key, you may have to destroy the lock.

To destroy it, drill into the face of the lock, where you would insert the key.

This will be very easy or very hard, depending on the quality of the lock.

it’s a numerical combo
(no key)

Combination locks are weak. Hammer it.

Did you try a little WD-40, and turning the straight part to see of you can loosen it?

The link did not work. If the combination is set to open the lock, try tapping each end gently with a small hammer to whack it loose.
