Is this a sign of depression?

Asked by ashsaintsfan (160points) September 13th, 2010

Going from breaking down crying at random times, to not reacting at all. Even when the worst things happen. Kind of like being numb. Over eating and randomly shaking…alot. Just wondering. Would this require a doctor or medication?

Seem like signs of depression to me. If you feel that these behaviors are negatively impacting your life, you might want to talk to a counselor. Doesn’t necessarily mean you need medication.

It could be but I would need more information about the time line and precipitating factors if any.

Sounds like depression. Could be a hormonal or chemical imbalance in the body. Go for a check-up. How do you feel in the mornings?

well like I dont wanna tell a sob story but things are pretty rough on me now and I dont have normal reactions like most people. The over eating happens when I need to cope with something…i think. And the trembling happens when I worry. Ive also developed a small stutter when I’m talking to someone. I’m always paranoid and on-edge now. Also, I have a tendency of running away and Ive only had temporary homes since i turned 18. Things get bad, I run away. I tend to not care about things at the moment and then regret it later. It’s like i put it all in the back of my mind until the last possible second. @MRSHINYSHOES, Mornings are like the worst. I dread the day, but then I get ready for the day and I’m fine.
Also, bipolar disorder/ depression run in the family, well my grandpa and mother. I have already been diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder.

If you have access to a doctor, get an appointment right away. If you don’t have easy access to one, then look in the phone book for the Dept. of Mental Health or a county health office. Call them and ask for a referral to a doctor.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, you’re crazy, maybe a little or a lot. Takes one to know one. I’m not as well as I’d like to be. Now what are you going to do about it. Putting a label on it might help because then there’s something to go on, like you’ll know what pills you should be taking, and you can learn coping skills to help medication or not. How old are you now, I mean, have you been living like this a long time, a long time since 18? You don’t have to be like this, as much. You can get help, you sound like you need some. Sounds like your a wanderer like me, you need to get on public assisstance. Get free insurance and shit. Then find a doctor and just be honest, it’s hard but it’s better than what might be there for you down the road if you stay untreated. That morning dread, do you dread your future like that too. Sucks, I’ll say a prayer for you, for strength and guidance. I’m not really the praying type, but on special occasions. Bye now. Hope this helps.

@ashsaintsfan It sounds like you’re suffering from depression and possibly a borderline personality disorder of some sort. Dr. Lawrence is our resident shrink and he might be able to help you if you want to write down some things. (I have a sense that you may not be sharing everything and that if you do you would get better help with your problem.) But, more personal, immediate and face to face help is out there…. as per @ hawaii jake ‘s suggestion. But, like the song says… ‘No body knows the trouble…’ you’ve seen or been in , so you need to go and talk it out with someone.

Just remember, we all go thought a lot of stuff in our lives. We don’t have to deal with it alone and asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of strength. You can build on your strength even when you’re feeling weak if you just reach out.
