How come my keyboard is acting weird?
My keyboard works fine when I am typing a Word Document. However, it sometimes acts up when I type into a search bar online. For some reason, some letters are omitted when the words show up on the screen, even though I know for sure I had typed those letters.
An example, let’s say I want to look up Rascal Flatts’s What Hurts the Most on Youtube. I would get back Rasl Ftts Wha Hus th Most on the search bar.
It’s really weird. This happens on Google and Wikipedia too. I was thinking it might have something to do with a plug-in or my internet connection, but I’m not sure if that’s right.

Would you mind sharing with us, what keyboard make/model/brand you have?

It’s a built-in keyboard on a Toshiba Satellite.
I don’t have any food crumbs or junk on my keyboard as far as I could tell. This problem has been going on for about a week now.
You may need to take apart the keyboard & clean each individual key. Here is a link that tells you how to remove the keyboard from A55 & A50 models. Here is how to remove each individual key to make sure the contact for when you press the key, is not obstructed.
The weird thing, though, is that the keyboard works fine when I type in Microsoft Word but not when I type online.
My brother had a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Wine was spilt on the keyboard. The keys worked intermittently. Unplugging the keyboard entirely from the laptop & plugging it back in helped for a while. Eventually he needed to replace the entire keyboard. Since you haven’t spilled anything on it, I think you should unplug the keyboard for a bit, then try it again.
Have you tried using an external keyboard (USB/Bluetooth), to be sure it is just a keyboard problem & not something else?
I’ll try removing the keyboard. Thanks.
If that doesn’t work, here is Toshiba’s contact for help. & if they don’t help you (because of warranty & such), here is where you can buy replacement parts. Good luck.
It could also be your browser, your ISP, or the sites that you’re at, because you’re not having the problem when you type on a word document.
I’ve also noticed an occasional lag between when I type a character and when I see it on my screen.
If a site gets really busy it might take longer than expected to echo back my keyboard entries, so I usually just type what I can, wait for the site to catch up, and then make whatever corrections I have to.
If your OS is Windows, you might have an on-screen keyboard that you can use for testing.
For Windows XP (at least): Start > All Programs > Accessories > Accessibility > On-screen Keyboard.
@Brian1946 Thanks for the answer.
Does anyone know how to do the procedure Brian described for Windows 7?

Even though I’m not familiar with Windows 7, I might be able to help you with this through a process of elimination.
Do you have a start button on your screen?
When you click on the start button, is there something on the menu that’s similar to All Programs?
I think I’ve found something interesting. The cursor problems happen most often on Youtube!
