What do you think of this bumper sticker?
So, I love this bumper sticker (well, plaque). However, I don’t want it to come across as an anti-Jesus fish, or as mocking someone’s belief – I’d like people to still let me into the next lane. Would you take this as cute, or as offensive (bonus points if you have a Jesus fish on your car)?

I am not the right person to answer, since I’m an atheist…… but that is so cute!
People need to hold their senses of humor close at all times. As a society, I wish we were less thin-skinned.
Well, I think it’s hilarious, but I also am planning on buying the one with the Darwin fish eating the Jesus fish. So there you go.
Sorry, bumper sticker lovers, it’s just auto pollution to me.
I like fish ‘n chips. I think it’s cute.
I admit, I LOLed! But I usually don’t like anything affixed on a personal vehicle. Clean lines, and all that, don’t you know.
I’m a christian and I lol’d.
It’s comical to me but I’m sure some stuffy ol’ bitter “christian” would get butt hurt over it.
I don’t like the ones that portray one religion over another. Like the darwin creature eating the ichthus. Really? Just cause you believe in darwin’s theories, you gotta act like your better than me? Same as those “real men love Jesus” stickers. Yeah that’s gonna be real effective in witnessing. “Oh I’m sorry, you don’t believe in Jesus? Well if you start then you could stop being a lousy excuse of a man and be a real man like me!” ¬_¬ Gimmy a break.
Who cares though? It’s your car. Stick whatever you want on it. =)
Ho-hum. I think it’s kind of corny. It doesn’t actually make a statement as, say, the Darwin one does. But I don’t see anything wrong with it otherwise.
@Jeruba I’m a fan of corny jokes. As well as all the other kind of jokes.
its funny. but i like the one that says “Gefilte” on it. my boyfriend is jewish and has it on his car. i didn’t know what Gefilte was, but apparently it is some gross pickled fish jews eat.
I think its funny! (I happen to have a jesus fish on my car) But I can definitely see how people won’t find the humor and will see it as offensive, so its your call. Is it funny enough for you? =]
Personally, I’m not a bumper sticker person. I don’t know why an automobile needs to make a statement in that way. It’s a mode of transportation.
But then, this is not about me.
I try to keep my sense of humor…and, pick and choose what I wish to be upset about.
@MissA Because to me, it’s not just a mode of transportation. It’s somewhere where I spend a great deal of time, as well as my monetarily valued possession by far. We decorate our homes, our offices, our cubicles, our purses, our water bottles, etc. Why not decorate our cars?
Plus, and this is definitely the most important: I own a black mid-sized sedan. Do you have any idea how many black mid-sized sedans there are in any given parking lot? It’s basically a sea of black, white, and silver/gray mid-sized sedans and navy SUVs/minivans. Bumper stickers are the fastest way to sort out which car is mine instead of wandering around for hours every time I park somewhere.

I confess, I never thought of bumper stickers as being an identifier in a sea of vehicles. Hmmm.
The bottom line though, is that if YOU want a bumper sticker on your bright orange van with oversized wheels, then you ought to be able to do it. I would think it’s the ugliest thing coming down the pike. But, it’s not my vehicle.
That is my point…partly in answer to some other comments. Do not defend yourself to me. Who am I? We’re all expressing our opinions, unless we’re considering facts.
@MissA Yeah, I gotta say, I think it’s the bright orange and the oversized tires doing 95% of the ugly there…
But I guess my concern is this: I don’t care if bumper stickers aren’t your thing. I don’t care if you think they’re ugly or tacky or whatever. I do care if the bumper sticker says something so offensive to tons and tons of people that driving becomes a much harder task because people aren’t willing to help that driver.
For instance: In my state, one of the specialty license plates has been co-opted by the pro-life movement in this area. I have heard of many a pro-choicer say that if they see that license plate, especially when combined with another pro-life message or a Jesus fish, they will ignore that person’s request to switch lanes in front of them. That is what I am worried about.
@papayalily
If the concern about auto assistance takes up any space in your mind, forgo anything that could possibly give way to notions about your character/political affiliations. Have a remote for your car so that you can find your vehicle in a mall parking lot (mentioned above).
You have written, in my mind, conflicting concerns about the bumper stickers. For instance, the above comment from you wasn’t mentioned in the question’s explanation.
Do what you feel is the best all around action. You’ll do the right thing. Take care.
I think it’s funny. Then again, the first time I saw the Jesus fish with feet, I laughed my head off. I can’t believe there would be enough people taking serious enough offense to give you a hard time about it. It’s never even occurred to me to be unhelpful to folks with rebel flags and bull testicles on their trucks.
Love it – believe me or not I have the Darwin one on the back of my car, I’m kind of getting sick of explaining it to people. In fact, sod it! I’m not going to anymore.
