Why do people crave greasy food when they are hung over?

It might be the salt usually accompanying fried foods rather than the grease itself, as electrolyte levels can be out of wack after a good bender. I always used to crave roasted, salted peanuts. Not that that's happened in the last decade or so.

Grease, and fat in general, typically helps to slow the absorption of alcohol through the stomach. So…maybe it’s your body’s desperate attempt to make good on hindsight? :P
That being said, hossman is correct – electrolyte balance is the primary cause of a “hang over,” given the dehydrating qualities of alcohol, so it’s probably just the salt you’re after.
