Is there a song or a music video that reminds you of your hometown? Why?
I was watching the GAC channel last night and the video for the song Trailerhood started playing. (I know, embarrassing to admit I watch that channel. The videos make me laugh and I hate hip hop and rap). The video is situated in a trailerpark in a southern kind of redneck town. It features a redneck guy lounging in a kiddie pool, a bunch of old guys with missing teeth playing cards and a few other sterotypical country redneck images. I started laughing, because if you moved the location to upstate NY you’d have the town I was born in. Don’t take this too seriously, because obviously I’m not. But do you have a song that reminds you of your hometown? Can be with humor or with pride, it doesn’t make a lot of difference. And also why does it remind you of your hometown?

My hometown is Oakland, California, so there are many music videos that feature it.
The one I think of, though, was a song from the early days of MTV, and I don’t even remember who did it. The song was something like “Cheeseburger, side order of fries”, and it featured a local hamburger spot (Quick-Way).
Small Town-John COUGAR Mellencamp. All the way.
You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma reminds me of being in another town, swooning for my hometown. sigh
How awesome to be a New Yorker and have a hundred songs to choose from.
@Adirondackwannabe I liked the feel of the song. It makes me feel happy. It’s so lighthearted, and I like the video of him being a garbage man
The garbage man was why I asked. Not exactly a glamorous profession. Nice song though.
@filmfann “there is no there there”! Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Being from LA there are tons of videos that feature my hometown and its environs, but the one that evokes the strongest feelings of home is Freefallin by Tom Petty.
@Adirondackwannabe Exactly. Not everyone has glamorous professions. The video was somewhat realistic. I like that.
Sprinsteen’s “My Hometown” and “My City in Ruins” because they are about two of my local towns.
@janbb Springsteen has a knack for that, apparently.
No,but there is one that reminds me of where I’ll end up
Someday :)
@TheOnlyNeffie Indeed, but he actually lives in my area and went to my brother’s high school.
I grew up in West Texas and whenever I hear the song A Dustland Fairytale it reminds me of my hometown….long lost dreams and all :)
@deni I was thinking the same thing. Put that on at christmas and I’ll need a tissue. lol
There isn’t a song specifically about my hometown but this one comes close.
Green and grey
I have a few from 1976, the bits that I remember, which remind me of cool summer nights by lake Huron, hanging out with friends; Baker Street – Gerry Refferty, Wheel in the Sky – Journey, Theme from the Rockford Files, and Who Loves You – Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I associate all of them with my little town in nothern Mighigan.
@filmfann I will cop to not fully understanding it. I just really love the fact that for some odd reason I know who said it and that she said it about Oakland.
