Do you have a goal you know you'll never reach?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37748points) September 17th, 2010

Once our basic needs are met, it seems that all persons begin to have goals for their lives. They might be for material gain or financial rewards or for promotion at work or for the perfect marriage.

At times, we may find ourselves looking at our goals through rose-colored glasses with starry eyes. In other words, we may just be fooling ourselves.

What goals do you cling to though attaining them may be next to impossible?

To never think of a goal I can’t reach.
(It’s harder than you think!)

Well, I really would’ve liked to have gone to space. I don’t think that’s happening.

@aprilsimnel Virgin Galactic (http://www.virgingalactic.com/) and Space Adventures (http://spaceadventures.com/) are already offering space trips to private citizens. Given, it’s a little pricey now, but not for long!

Are you aiming for enlightenment?

Plain honest question. No skepticism, doubt, evangelism or snark.

@jaytkay, sure. Why not?

I believe the minute I start thinking there’s a goal I can’t reach, the possibility of attaining it vanishes. Experience has taught me it’s better to put positive thoughts into the ether rather than negative ones.

Yes, but the reason I won’t make it is because it is irrational. I want to buy a big RV and travel all around the country. It’s irrational because I would miss my grandkids too much.

Yes: to see Olympus Mons in person.

Understanding liberals.

that would require conservatives be understanding – another impossible goal

MeinTeil's avatar

Oh, we conservatives understand (have knowledge of) what liberals want.

It’s the insane and unfair way the aim to achieve it that is beyond a conservatives comprehension.

I’d like to see the U.S. states legalize prostitution. Because I know it will never happen in my lifetime, plus plans to move to another country, it has taken a back-burner.

I don’t think I’ll ever get to visit France or Austria.
