What do you think of Mummification?

Asked by JustmeAman (3978points) September 22nd, 2010

I know of a place in Salt Lake City where they are doing it and doing so with a license making it legal. I was there when they did the founder of the group and saw them do the process. It was very interesting. They do animals for the most part because the cost is prohibitive.

I don’t see why it is any different than embalming someone. I like how my religion does it, without preservatives.

I agree it was quite interesting. My daughter had their cat mummified and he sits on the base of the fireplace and weights around 150 pounds.

It weighs that much? What in the world did they do to the cat? It sounds more like bronzing than mummification.

No they mummify the animal or man with lots of chemicals wrap them in cloth then they pour a resin around the entire body and place it is a very heavy sarcophagus. It took just over a year to do the founder of the group.

It is just another way of preserving bodies.

Why not? I wouldn’t mind being mummified when I pass away, as long as my body is put in a fancy tomb.

Yes Corky is going to be placed in the Pyramid they meet in weekly for about 2 years and then placed in his tomb which is 30 below the surface of the property.

Mummification, like cryogenics, is an insane attempt at immortality. I believe in spreading out my DNA in a million airborne retroviruses and waiting for genetic reincarnation.

Hmm, is there also a burial of the corpse? otherwise i can imagine it could get a little inconvenient for space in the next 1000 years. if they are being buried then im totally fine with it. (maybe you dont need to bury important artists, thinkers and scientists and so on.)

JustmeAman's avatar

@poisonedantidote He is going to be put 30 feet below the surface of the ground so yes he is buried though his tomb will remain open because they have other tombs to fill and names on them of the people that want this done.

I think it is a waste of a perfectly good body. What is wrong with letting other people use it when you aren’t? Its organ donation and/or anatomy students for me, because I think it is best to help people in death as well as life.

It will make for some interesting relics for the future to discover, if they are still into that sort of thing by then.

I think she would look so peaceful in white gauze!

ucme's avatar

Nah not for me, i’m the Daddy! Besides, i’m not interested in gender realignment.

JustmeAman's avatar

I agree I’m not having it done and I’m donating everything I can to others. My daughter has paid for her to have it done but that is her choice.
