Open PDFs in Chrome?

its hard to answer this question without actually being able to see what is happening when you try to open the pdfs… when you are clicking on the link what does the link actually say? does it say ‘view’ or ‘download’ this pdf? i personally have not had this issue; i also use windows, not mac.but maybe if you could provide more details about your issue i or other users could more easily help you?

When I click the link it initiates a download and then the pdf is on my desktop.

and you only want to view the pdf in the browser, correct?

yes, I used to do this in safari. PDF links would open in a safari window.

one of the answers here says an option for quick view of the pdf allowed problem free viewing in the browser but not all will give you this option…

I installed that extension already, nothing

Enter about:plugins in the address bar. There is a option to turn on the built in pdf viewer.
