LOTR fans: which male character would you like to be or to take home with you?

Asked by Jeruba (56106points) September 25th, 2010

This is the third of several questions (here’s the first) intended for fans of the Peter Jackson film trilogy.

If you don’t like the movies, that’s just fine. In that case please don’t feel compelled to answer.

Assuming you’re male (or willing to imagine it), which of the male characters would you be?

Assuming you like men (or imagining that you did), which of the male characters would you like to snuggle down with?

The corresponding question about females is here.

I’ll take Aragorn.;)

Eomer, perhaps. Although based on my height, my girth and my penchant for mushrooms, perhaps I ought to be Merry.

If I were a male character in The Lord of the Rings, I would be Froddo. I have never considered myself close in personality, presence, or physical capability to the men, elves, dwarfs, etc. of the series. I am, without question, far closer to the hobbits.

As I would also adore running off with Frodo… this makes my choice a bit conflicting. I wouldn’t push Aragorn away if the option were available—the man is beyond handsome.

Who does Viggo Mortenson play? I’ll take that one.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Okay, my answer is Aragorn. I’m not good with character names. Probably doesn’t help that I only saw the movies once. I liked them, though.

Jeruba's avatar

Here I’m not just looking for favorites—I’m really interested in being versus being with.

If I could be any male character, I’d be Gandalf. But as a woman I’d have my eye on Faramir.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Wait, who we want to be, or who is most like us?

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

I’d want to be Éomer as well.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

I would want to be Samwise :)
He showed that the least among us can accomplish the most for us.

He rocked

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille is that the chubby kid with the curly hair? I was going to pick him, too.

muppetish's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille You can be Samwise and I’ll be Frodo and together we’ll go on grand adventures :)

How serendipitous that I should find this question only a few moments after I put the first disc of the Two Towers extended edition into the DVD player!

I think that I am most like Sam. He’s honorable, loyal and a huge worrywart which describes me pretty well. However, if I was to choose a character that I would most want to be, I think that would be Legolas. Just from a purely practical and emotional point of view, he seems to be the least touched by tragedy of the group.

However, if I was to choose with whom to snuggle down, I think it would be with Aragorn. From a physical standpoint, yum. From a personality standpoint, he’s kind and gentle and recognizes a person for his/her inner worth. He’s a good man with just enough of a tragic past to be humn, but not so much as to make him broken.

Edit to add: I also think it was an absolute crime that Viggo Mortensen didn’t get the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

@muppetish -I’ll look out for ya :)

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

I’d probably end up being Merry.

I’d do Aragorn in a heartbeat (and in my dreams, I have). He seems the most sturdy aside from Gimli, and that’s good for what I have planned for us.

isuppose's avatar

Legolas. That is all.

Jeruba's avatar

Who you’d want to be, @TheOnlyNeffie: whose life and being you’d choose to have, if you could imagine yourself into their world..

Trillian's avatar

@Jeruba Do you have your eyes on Faramir because David Wenham is so breathtakingly handsome, or do you admire the character?
I think I’d be Haldir.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I would be Pippin, because he is most like myself of the males, personality-wise. As much as I’d like to be like Gandalf, I’m not nearly as wise, and I’ll just accept that.

I would take home Faramir or Eomer.

Because they both need (me to give them) a hot bath.

rodydoe89's avatar

I’m a female, but I’d be Gandalf. I’d take home Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir, and Frodo. Ha.

Jeruba's avatar

@Trillian, simply and truly just because he is the one who gives me the tingles and makes me want to take him home with me. I am attracted to his character, the philosopher and not the warrior, but the complex, contemplative mind isn’t the tingly part.

If Faramir were busy, I’d probably be happy to take Haldir instead.

@aprilsimnel, if you were Gandalf, you’d be that wise.

KatawaGrey's avatar

@Jeruba: I do love how much more of Faramir we see in the extended version of The Two Towers. He becomes a much more complex and sympathetic character.

Jeruba's avatar

Yes, @KatawaGrey—one of the great reasons for watching the whooole thing.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@KatawaGrey Is he the brother who was part of the Fellowship, or the brother that the dad hated? I can never keep them straight.

KatawaGrey's avatar

@papayalily: Brother that dad hated. Poor Faramir. :(

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@KatawaGrey Oh, I loved him. I felt soooo sorry for him. Broke my heart.

MacBean's avatar

Faramir is my favorite LotR character, books and movies. I can never quite decide if I’d rather be him or do him. I have this problem quite often.

Seek's avatar

I’ve been in love with Aragorn since I was five years old. Sold. ^_^

Smeagol! “Gollum Gollum…”

V_Scofield's avatar

I want Faramir or Aragorn. Too bad they’re both taken, but I’ve gotta say Eowyn has good taste in men.

martianspringtime's avatar

I’d take Aragorn, but I’d be Gandalf.
