See’s Candy. Everyone loves candy.
anything a little more, well, japanese?
Japanese candy?
Seriously, sponsor a series of small Japanese tea parties. I say small because you don’t really have the funds for a big bash. And if you start small you can use some of the funds raised from the first to pay for the second.
@WestRiverrat we were thinking along those lines. are you aware of any decently priced places to get these things?
No, but even if I did, I am a long way from where you are.
well i was thinking of an online store of some sort
Buy 300 fortune cookies (wholesale) for $50 and sell them for $1.00 each. Tell the buyer that you are going to have good luck with these special cookies that includes a donation to the club.
source and there are many more where I found that one – Google – type in fortune cookies wholesale.
How much are you trying to raise?
One idea: If there are any Japanese restaurants in your area, how about talking to them to see if they would be willing to participate in your fund-raiser? They might be willing to set up a sushi bar. At minimum, they could provide individual boxes with various sushi pieces, some ginger, wasabi, soy sauce in packets and chop sticks. (A local restaurant did this weekly where I used to work.)
While $50 wouldn’t be enough, you might be able to work out an arrangement with the school for a loan or with the restaurant where you mark the price up from what they are charging you and then pay them back.
As for the fortune cookies, keep in mind that they are affiliated with the Chinese and not the Japanese culture. It might become an issue.
hmmm, good idea. we dont really have a funds goal yet. we are just barely starting up
