If you could thank someone today, who would it be and why and who would you not thank ever?

Asked by Pandora (32436points) September 29th, 2010

I was thinking today how lucky my children were to have some awesome teachers along the way.
I’m talking about teachers who went that extra mile to give them the push they needed in crucial times during their growing years to excel.
With all the moving we always lost touch. Teachers moved on as well and so it was never possible to find out where they moved on to.
So for all those teachers out there that actually give a damn, and never give up on your kids futures, I thank you all.
This thank you however is not for all teachers. We’ve met an equal amount that only cared about their pension and nothing about the students they taught. The only instuction you guys ever gave my kids was, who not to be like in any way.

Before I read your details, I thought of certain high school teachers of mine and how much I’d thank them!

I would thank my Grandpa (deceased) for being the best father, grandfather, friend, teacher, protector, sage and inspiration in my life.

I can’t think of anyone not to thank for something. Even negative experiences taught me stuff that has helped me.

I thanked each of the teachers who helped me throughout high school (specifically my Journalism and Art History / Ceramics professor) and will individually thank my professors before I graduate from university. I only wish I were better able to continue expressing my gratitude for all they did for me.

Other than teachers, there are two people I would like to thank: 1) a boy I knew in elementary school who extended kindness to those who were ostracized from the rest of our student body (myself included) and 2) my friend who passed away when I was in high school (I know I thanked her many times, but it was never enough.)

I need to thank my father for simply telling me he considered “putting out a hit” on the dirty bastard who took my virginity. Just knowing he considered it made me feel vindicated in a way. I just realized I’ve never thanked him for that.

Pretty much on the same subject, I would never thank our ridiculous justice system for letting men like the one I mentioned above out of prison after a short sentence.

@muppetish Exactly my problem now. I told these teachers thank you many times but they never got to see the results of what they helped flourished. But how do you thank someone for the gifts that keep giving. They are young adults and both are out of school. Just wish they could see them now.

@WillWorkForChocolate I totally agree. At the very least they should be branded on their foreheads to warn other people.

@Pandora That’s actually a really good idea. If they won’t kill them off, which they won’t, they should give them a permanent, visible stamp of some sort, like “I touch children”.

My high school coach, but I’ve thanked him over the years. He practically reared me!

Teacher wise I would thank Mrs. Ferguson my junior English teacher, that woman practically save my life. I would also thank the most incredibly gift pre-school teacher on the entire planet. I am not joking when I tell you that if when my children turn out alright I am very hopeful based on their current status! she will have been one of the biggest reasons.

Not related to education, I am looking forward to the day I get to thank my fiance’s grandfather. There is no doubt in my mind that without his Papa my man would not be the amazing person and gift to my children and me that he is.

I would thank my grandparents from my mother’s side. They raised me so well and tought me and they made me into the person I am now and I would also thank my mother.
I think I would never thank my father since I’ve never seen him, when my mother was pregnant he just left her.
