What would cause an error 3 and error 6 message(dirty or damaged disc) on a car's Clarion CD player?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) September 30th, 2010

Brand new cd inserted into 3 or 4 year old cd player and err3 or err6 comes up repeatedly. It happens more often in cold temperatures. The cds play fine on other players. And it’s just with some cds, others play just fine. Any ideas what causes this or how to correct it?

I have the same message in my Toyotas CD player. i believe there is a stuck CD inside the player. it does not work and gives me the Errr3 message. if you find out, pls let me know. john

If it happens more in cold temperatures, could the CDs be getting foggy (for lack of a better word) with some condensation that inhibits their readability?

@Cupcake That’s a great thought. The last one was on a hot day, so I’m not sure if that’s always the case, but it’s something I’ll look into.

@Adirondackwannabe Good luck! Customer service may have some ideas as well.

I could drive my car to the tropics and i still would have the same Errr3 message.
Any other suggestions, other than an expensive dealer service charge?

And it’s just with some cds more than others. There isn’t one stuck inside on my player. Maybe I’ll try blowing the cd player out with compressed air?
