Is there a way to convert iPhone games to Android games?

Asked by MyNewtBoobs (19069points) September 30th, 2010

I want to play Enigmo on my Android, but it’s only out for the iThings. If I download the ipa, can I convert it to apk – or something else that will work?

You can’t do this. Written in different code.

Correct; they are completely different platforms under the hood, and the apps aren’t even coded in the same language so you can’t just re-compile the source.

@jerv So then how is that different than when I convert VOB to avi or wma to mp3?

Think of it this way. It would be like having a car run on water filled with gas and a car that runs on gas filled with water. Apples to oranges.

@zwingli Ok, but aren’t there programs that convert, say, Mac documents to Windows and vice versa? Don’t those compatibility issues fit your analogy, bu there are still work-arounds?

There aren’t any programs to convert an MP3 into a JPEG and get anything meaningful. The reason you can (usually) convert documents between the platforms is because they are (usually) just different versions of the same standard; compare American English to Australian English. Now compare them both to the language of the common housecat, complete with ear swivels and tail twitches, and you have an idea of how hard it’d be to transfer apps.
