Why am I having so many Nightmares and why do I always remember them ?

Asked by Scarlett (915points) October 1st, 2010

Hi so I have a problem that has really been bugging me about my dreams lately,

For the past year, my sleep has been totally F**ckd up… I’ve had insomnia since elementary, but it has gotten worse over time.

This issue really bothers me because they seem and feel very real, and I hate it.

I would like to have regular dreams, regular sleep patterns, and no nightmares.

Everytime I wake up in the morning I feel like a truck hit me on the head, I feel confused, and I feel a cloud over me.

Could it be from stress, or what ?

My dreams have become very lucid, and I don’t want to remember them anymore.

For the past 6 months, I have also become “psychic”. I know it might sound crazy to some people, but it’s true. I think of things, and they HAPPEN. It’s really crazy, and scary at some point.

I feel like I’m getting a little too psychic, or think I am, my mind is just out of control, and I think too much.I feel like I have strong intuition, more than most people, and I don’t know how to control it.

I go to sleep at night feeling like I have so much on me.

I just want this to stop but I don’t know how.

I think it comes from the stress I’m going through, and I think I carry the stress when I go to bed – but that still doesn’t explain the Intensity or Lucidity of the dreams.

I would like to have no more nightmares, so more intense of lucid dreams…

If anyone can help me that would be great

I started some of the same issues you are talking about after I was brought back from an NDE. There has been a lot more take place in my life and sometimes it is very real and terrifies me. I’m not sure what you can do except to try and get control of it and accept it. I can now control a lot of things and even keep some from happening.

Your dreams you mean ?

I have also dreams of dying, and I KNOW that I’m dead, and I see and feel my soul wandering and SEARCHING where to go next, some very deep stuff.

I know exactly what you are saying and what you are going through. I have picked up a couple of things/abilities I would call exceptional or unwanted. I am able to control most of it now by just trying hard to take charge of it. I used to wonder quite a bit but no longer and I can even control where I go.

U mean Lucid dreaming ? How did u control it if you don’t mind me asking ? I feel like my mind KNOWS it’s dreaming, and what is going on, it just can’t CONTROL it. It’s like watching a movie, knowing I can stop or change it, but I don’t know how. It feels so real.

I am able to get control and become aware of what is going on. I am then able to go where I want and answer questions that I want answers too. I was able to find an old girl friend this way and I discovered she was married and had two children and where she lived. I then went and looked her up and she was in the home that I visited a number of nights before. I even found out her last name. I’m not sure how to explain getting control. I just concentrated each time I became aware of the dream.

There have been times in my life where I have gone through weeks or months of recurrent violent nigtmares during times of stress. The way I get rid off them is going to therapy and talking through what is troubling me in real life.

ALmost the exact same thing happened to me between the ages of 14–15. Now I’m just a regular insomniac w/ non-nightmare lucid dreams. After a while (for me I outgrew them) they may just go away. I found out eating ice cream before bed also gives you nightmares (I’m not sure why, but it holds true for me). Try breathing deeply when you are in the dream and hold onto the notion, no matter how hard it is, that this is a dream, and it is your brain, you are in control.

I would try doing yoga or other stress reliving exercises before bed. Also listen to soft, happy music to bed. And lastly if you have a lot of caffeine through the day try to cut down.

I used to have bad dreams when I was little. My grandmother gave me a small bible to put under my pillow and they went away.

Me too, when i am dreaming, I used to wonder quite a bit but no longer and I can even control where I go.
