What percentage of your waking day do you spend in front of a screen?
Many of us spend our working days staring at compuetr screens and then in the evening we watch television or check Fluther. Have you ever wondered how much of your time is spent staring at a screen?

Probably 60% but the only reason to think of it that way is the fact we still use 2d monitors which are really surreal. Once (if…) everything switches to 3d that percentage will go up to 90% and no one will care anymore. Except the amish.
probably ten hours a day. It’s become my life. I used to read four magazines and a newspaper and two or three dozen novels a year. Oh! And watch several tv shows. No more. One magazine. One newspaper. No dramatic shows—just sports on TV. The rest is computer face time.
97.6%. The other night I went to sleep in my bed and woke up in my desk chair, a cat laying across the keyboard.
Let’s see.
I get up at 7:00 and am at work sometime between 8:00 and 8:30. From that moment I am behind the screen pretty much constantly until around 5:00. Then, in the evenings more often than not I spend half an hour or more dealing with personal email, etc… before becoming unconscious. Add to that an hour or two of TV time and it works out to around 70%.
Of course, weekends are an entirely different story. Most weekends I spend virtually no time behind a screen.
Does the windscreen in my car count!?! :¬)
I would say about 40% in front of the computer screen. The TV screen spends about 50% watching me. I usually just listen to TV while reading, cleaning, cooking or while I’m on the computer.
I would say about 25% on my computer and perhaps 10% television.
about 75% I think (⅔ of that being at work). Computer only – I never watch TV.
Of my working day, 99% is spent in front a computer screen (I’m a programmer).
I feel like the last thing I wanna do when I get home is look at another monitor; this sometimes includes the TV.
Probably 10 hours a day and now that I have a Droid, I expect screen time to increase. So about 55% of my day??
Hmmm.. not so much time in front of an actual computer.. but I couldn’t count how many hours I’m messing around on my iphone 4 hah.
According to The Onion, 90% is the American average.
For me, I’m around 80%, since my job is in the IT field.
@erichw1504 That article is hilarious. Honey? Are you even home?
Might be time to look into light diets though, since different kinds of light are catalists for different reactions. I sure hope my screens aren’t irradiating my face.
I would guess about 90% – I am here in front of both my computer and TV all the time except for the few minutes or so I load and unload the washer and dryer, or go into the kitchen to check on the meal.
My work doesn’t involve looking at screens, so on those days about 40%. Days off it’s like 100%... okay maybe 80% if it’s cold and rainy, 50% if I can afford to go out.
Too much is all i know. I wanna cut down on computer time. I don’t overdo TV watching though, so i don’t feel guilty about that one. :)
