FutureMemory's avatar

YellowsubmarineOnfluther's avatar

whats up dog? ha i had to great name by the way

Let’s say just for the heck of it that you were serious.
The cost of building, maintaining, running and improving this site would have to be considered as well as the salaries of staff and advisors, equipment and office space.

I think we are lucky we do not have to pay a fee to belong like Metafilter.

YellowsubmarineOnfluther's avatar

Totally but im sure if you did the numbers of how many people use this site, im sure millions, that debt was paid off long ago my friend

@Dog ; Don’t forget the opulence of the 10K mansion and cost of staff and upkeep (and OMG the catering) of the 20 K castle!

Dog's avatar

@JilltheTooth Yeah- the liquor bill alone is insane.

@Dog :: Metafilter is just a one time fee of five dollars. And it is a very good way to keep the the stupid/spam away.

@Dog ; Wait…it’s not BYOB? I am totally living here til I can Move on Up!!!

Dog's avatar

@johnpowell Yeah I bet it keeps trolls down too.

@YellowsubmarineOnfluther There are only 18123 people who have ever answered questions on Fluther (you can see this on the Awards page under Jelly-Helper). That’s hardly millions. It’s not even twenty thousand. Fluther is a very small site, as far as users go.

Did you just say Fluther.com is making millions? Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

cockswain's avatar

You guys aren’t getting your checks? Maybe you just need to adjust your account settings. I get $20 for each GA.

I PROTEST! I WANT MY MONEY NOW! If you really want to earn money from your contribution in QandA site you could visit other QandA sites that require a regular payment, they offer money for contribution among their members. I’m glad that fluther is a free site anyway.

[manager says]

A) In no way are we making millions. In our dreams, maybe. ;)
B) But we did just pass the ‘one million unique visitors in a month’ milestone!
C) Lurve and the respect of our fellow jellies is our reward. ♥

Cruiser's avatar

Wow @augustlan that is pretty cool! Congrats to the tide pool management for that milestone!

Aster's avatar

They’re only making hundreds of thousands a year; not millions. lol

I’m just curious: if one adds 7 “w”‘s to now, does it enhance or detract from the seriousness of the question? Secondly, if the OP says it’s his money, then why doesnt’ he have it? Who exactly is he requestion if from? This question makes no sense, plus it has a ridiculous and annoying typo.

augustlan's avatar

@zen_ Psst. Speaking of typos… requestion?

janbb's avatar

Send my check c/o Post Restante, Budapest, please.

zen_'s avatar

I stadn by my requestion. And it’s not annoying.

;-)

Are Jellies gaining millions of insights because people like you and I just keeping posting and blogging, shouldn’t we all pay for this?

So I guess we’re even, aren’t we?

augustlan's avatar

@mattbrowne Well done, sir. ;)

JilltheTooth's avatar

@mattbrowne : I second that ^ ^ ^

YellowsubmarineOnfluther's avatar

Not really @mattbrowne, money buy’s you things, information from this website im sure is not always used and is usless, most people just like blogging, and the question was meant to be a sarcastic joke. I was put in good humor (family guy joke) when I realized how many of you are taking it to seriously. If you have taken it seriously dont you realize we are all doing a portion of this websites job. Im sure people hear about this website from you or your colleagues which fuels fluther. The more amount of people joining and using the cite the more money they make. The joke was, hopfully you realized, that its funny how easy it is to make money just by setting up a website. maybe not millions but im sure thousands use this site. and @zen , reallly? its a question on a website not a graded essay.

cockswain's avatar

That’s a terrible answer.

YellowsubmarineOnfluther's avatar

Thats a terrible opinion

cockswain's avatar

Don’t worry, it will get removed. But that really is just a poorly written answer. Not up to Fluther standards and totally misses the point.

YellowsubmarineOnfluther's avatar

Once again buddy, thats all your opinion, dont stick to it. I understand that the point of fluther is to be a great tool for information and its free and blah blah blah. All Im trying to point out is that im willing to be the bad guy and question fluther from my own point of view. I really didn’t even expect all these people to blog about it but fluther got my question out there and is just such a good website, right?

augustlan's avatar

[mod says] Flame off, folks. No need to make this personal.

janbb's avatar

The question is “Is Fluther making millions because posters aren’t getting paid” and the answer is, “No – Fluther isn’t making millions.” Simple as that.

mattbrowne's avatar

Do Wikipedia authors and editors get paid?

No.

Why?

Because they understand that contributing knowledge also means being able to use the knowledge of others. This is why Wikipedia is a huge success.

YellowsubmarineOnfluther's avatar

@mattbrowne, wikipedia is knowledge that isnt always legit. there have been occasions where a regular joe has posted a wrong fact about a time period and the fact was not taken off, if that person never told wikipedia that it was a wrong fact then it would have been written in history forever, why do you think teachers wont let kids use wikipedia? its not always benificial to use the knowledge from others. Are you sure the editers do not get paid? I can understand the authors but dont the editors work for the company?

mattbrowne's avatar

@YellowsubmarineOnfluther – No, the normal editors do not get paid. They are also volunteers. The Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization headquartered in San Francisco.
